Rescue Ranger
November 2021
The holiday season is a time when we receive a majority of our donations, and with operating costs increasing we need your help more than ever. We have two fundraising campaigns coming up on social media and we hope you will make a generous donation to help us rescue Goldens and golden-hearted dogs in need.
The first is Giving Tuesday which falls on November 30th. Last year we raised an astonishing $20,000! Can we beat that amount this year? To get us started, members of the NRGRR Board of Directors are generously matching all donations up to $4500 on Giving Tuesday!
We will also have our 12 Days of Christmas campaign beginning in mid-December and continuing up to Christmas. Be sure to follow us as we share our achievements throughout 2021.

Donations during these events can be made online or through our Facebook page.
NRGRR 2021 Events
  • November 30th - Giving Tuesday - social media.
  • December 5th - Hillsborough Light Up the Night Holiday Parade - Downtown Hillsborough

Meet and Greets are held on the first and third Saturday of the month at Zoomy Dogs!, located at 5420 NC-55, Durham, NC 27713. The schedule is subject to change and we will announce our plans, including expected dogs to attend, on our Meet and Greet webpage before the scheduled date.
Notice: Our friends at Zoomy Dogs have announced they will be closing their Durham location at the end of December. They have been awesome hosts to us; it is a wonderful location and we will miss them! We will still have our Nov 20, Dec 4, and Dec 18th events there at the regular scheduled time of 10am - 12pm.

We are currently looking for a new location to host our Meet and Greet events and will make an announcement on our home page when more is known.

Volunteer Spotlight
Julie Rigby
Over the past year or so, we have spotlighted many volunteers within the NRGRR family. Some have been around a while, many are new volunteers, or folks who have assumed new roles within the Rescue in the past twelve months. Our volunteer spotlight this month is someone who has been an integral part of the NRGRR family for many years and has worn, and continues to wear, many hats – Julie Rigby
Foster Mom
Operations Manager
Dog Behavior Team Lead
International Team
Lost Dog Team
From 2015-2020, Julie led the Operations Team, which is a very labor-intensive, essential position, requiring day-t0-day dedication to getting dogs into program, assigning them a dog coordinator, making sure medical needs are taken care of, coordinating issues with our various veterinarian partners, managing the bi-monthly Meet and Greets, and SO much more. Julie is a proven leader and was perfect in that role. However, Julie wanted to spend more time working with dogs with behavioral issues and help lead the effort to bring in dogs from places like China, Turkey, and Kosovo. In 2020, Julie changed hats and assumed new roles in NRGRR. Let’s look at some of the roles that Julie currently leads or plays a major role in; some of her Superpowers.
Dog Behavior Team – Have you ever had a foster dog that you loved but you needed some guidance and support to help them adjust to your home? Many of our fosters have experienced dogs with behavioral issues. Fortunately, NRGRR has Julie Rigby! Julie often knows the exact training tip, behavior modification, or expert resource that can help a foster dog adjust and thrive in their new environment. In addition to helping our dogs adjust, Julie provides support for our 2-legged fosters! Julie has met with many fosters; in their home, at local parks, and training centers; to coach dog and human alike. Julie works her magic as she teaches both dog and human-handler new skills. For several years Julie did this work on her own, but now has put together an amazing Behavior Team to support her in this effort. The Behavior Team Julie leads helps our dogs and fosters find success!
Just this month, Julie completed her work to become a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT). We want to congratulate her on this major milestone; just one more example of her intense dedication to help rehab dogs and prepare them for their furever homes! CONGRATULATIONS Julie!
Additionally, Julie is an integral part of the International Rescue Team. From helping to ensure compliance with medical records, to collaborating with our international rescue partners, to transporting dogs both by ground and air; there is no stopping Julie when it comes to saving dogs! Our China dogs need even more specialized attention to comply with North Carolina quarantine requirements as well as meeting with our state vets to ensure compliance. She is a constant positive force on the international team, helping to overcome any potential roadblocks with creative ideas like coordinating a foster team in Canada. Almost 100 dogs have been saved thanks to Julie's unwavering focus of fulfilling our mission – to Rescue, Rehab, and Adopt goldens in need. Love has no borders!
Lost Dog Team – If you have been a part of the NRGRR family over the past year or so, you know that 2021 has been the year of “dogs on the lam,” (aka -runaway dogs!) Julie has led this team’s efforts to track, locate, capture, and get these scared and skittish pups back to a safe foster home to prepare them for ultimate adoption. Being part of the lost dog team requires infinite time and patience, a lot of communication, many dedicated volunteers, and more time and patience. Leading this team requires spurts of energy and motivation with many late nights, early mornings, and long days! Skills required: Critter cam set up and monitoring, trap set up and removal, outdoor grilling, willingness to recruit strangers for the use of their perfectly located fenced back yards, and endless stamina for the grueling work that can take days, weeks, or even months! Julie not only leads the Lost Dog Team for NRGRR, she also frequently jumps in to help other rescues with their searches, trap hauling, and critter cam set up.

NRGRR is a stronger, more heart-driven organization because of Julie’s hard work and dedication to our dogs and fosters! We are SO thankful for you – Julie Rigby! You are truly a blessing to the NRGRR family and the world of dog rescue!
