Hello Learners Chess Parents and Friends!
We are excited to announce that Learners Chess has won $10,000 from our entry in the #queenofkatwecontest, a contest promotion that was part of the recent Disney movie, Queen of Katwe. In the movie and in real life, a chess coach, Robert Katende, started a youth chess program that changed the lives of countless kids in his community of Katwe, an impoverished area of Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. This was a contest on Instagram where entrants post a picture and write 300 words describing how our works is revitalizing our community. Our entry focused on our Learners Without Borders program and described how this past summer we worked to develop youth leaders in Albuquerque who raised community enough community support to bring our model of week long chess programs abroad to engage a handful of youth in a rural community of El Salvador! We are so honored to be recognized and rewarded for the work we do! This money will go towards supporting and growing our impact through our Learners Without Borders program!
