SOMERSFIELD UPDATE

Dear Parents,

We’ve reached our one-week mark, and I am happy to report that our school is bustling with activity. Our students are happy and settling into a routine. Teachers are building connections with their students, and teaching and learning are filling our classrooms.

Although the school day is going great, we continue to face challenges with traffic. We recognize that the traffic has been extra heavy, particularly with more vehicles using Middle Road; however, I believe we can fix some of the challenges by adhering to the following:

  • Arrive at your designated time
  • Refrain from parking at the entrance of the school to wait for your time slot
  • Absolutely no parking along the traffic routes including along the fence and western side of the gymnasium. (*Volunteers may use the parking bays alongside the gym between 8:30 – 2:30 only)
  • Reserve conversations with staff and send an email instead to keep the traffic flowing

Collectively, if we all do our part, we can create the change we hope to see.

On a separate note, I wish to inform you that two staff members have been offered unique employment opportunities that support their professional growth. Sakina Steede (Student Services) will assume a key position within Bermuda Government, and Bernadette Tucker (Library) will assume a post at the Bermuda College. Both are talented and exceptional employees who love Somersfield and have brought tremendous value to our school. We wish them well in their new endeavors.

Joining our team is Dr. Judith Bartley, an accomplished special educator with decades of experience. She headed the Special Education division at the Department of Education and has held various leadership roles over the years. We are delighted to have her caliber of talent at Somersfield.

We are equally delighted to have amazing parent volunteers who consistently assist us in the running of the school library. With their continued support and a dedicated substitute on hand to oversee the library, we don’t anticipate any interruptions to the library while we find a suitable replacement.

Volunteering at the school is welcomed and encouraged. We love volunteers! There are many ways in which you can volunteer at the school, starting with our Back to School BBQ on Friday, Sept 23. If you want to learn more about volunteering, please contact our SPTA at SomersfieldPTA@gmail.com.

As always, we thank you for your continued support.
