Community Connections

A heartfelt thank you to the partners and supporters who make our work possible!

Thank you, Kiwanis Club of Calgary Chinook!

The Kiwanis Club of Calgary Chinook showed the true meaning of community last month. They stopped by our Sunridge school to deliver a $5,000 donation and help build classroom resources for the next school year. We also enjoyed donuts and swapped stories about community service, it was a great morning all around!

Thank you, Kiwanis Club of Calgary Chinook, for your time and generosity. Children with diverse needs thrive at Pacekids because of hard-working community members like you!

Play-Based Therapy:

Play Together, Learn Together

By Reise Agnew, MSc.OT, Reg.OT (AB)

Community and In-Home

Before children can learn new skills, they need to feel safe, connected, and engaged. Play-based therapy focuses on meeting children at their level and giving them space to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences through their strengths and interests.

Play can be the foundation for building connections and supporting learning in a way that feels natural and meaningful. Rather than focusing only on tasks or outcomes, joining your child in play and following their lead helps build confidence and readiness to learn.

What this can look like:

  • Getting down to your child’s level and playing alongside them
  • Following their interests rather than directing the activity
  • Modelling skills naturally within play and daily routines
  • Keeping learning interactions fun and low-pressure

Play-based therapy supports skill development by making learning engaging, motivating, and enjoyable!
