This estuary features a complex of tidal flats, shallow marshes, agricultural areas and a marine zone. It is home to over 200 bird species throughout the year and is a critical stopover for migratory birds along the Pacific Flyway.
Eelgrass and other areas provide rearing habitat for salmonids and other marine species, and the intertidal area is used by more than 30 species of fish including herring and trout.
