Even the best maintained shrubs get full of twiggy deadwood and occasionally need to be rejuvenated to re-energize.
To maintain them at the desired size and shape many plants are pruned significantly below their natural growing height.  As an example, Photinia fraseri , a common hedge often maintained at 3-5' tall, has a mature growing height of 12-15'.  In addition, many deciduous plants, like Red Barberry, are best and easiest to maintain by frequently rejuvenating.

This is why we recommend r ejuvenation pruning in the early spring.  Unless you know why we are doing this, you may not understand or appreciate it.  In our goal to manage your landscape asset, we recommend good long-term solutions to protect or renew your landscape.  Please know that we will respect your wishes but will likely recommend rejuvenation to you at some point to keep your shrubs maintained to the desired height and health.
