The Wilson Society was founded in 2005 as a second semester Senior engagement program at Memphis University School by Eddie Batey. After much discussion, the Kemmons Wilson Family Foundation Board opted to expand the program to the three high schools where the grandchildren of Kemmons and Dorothy attended: Briarcrest, Hutchison and MUS.
The Wilson Society challenges students to discover his or her leadership skills in the areas of service. Students work in small groups at their schools but they also work together across campuses to solve real issues in our community. Projects range in interest and include focusing on conservation (recycling, planting trees), mentoring in after school program, hosting prom night for students with special needs, and renovating spaces for nonprofits.
Students are encouraged to focus on creating sustainable programming and often bring along freshmen and sophomores so when seniors graduate, the programs still continue.
We have been invited to start The Wilson Society at East in the 2019-20 school year with MUS, Briarcrest, Hutchison and ECS. We are proud to be a part of The Wilson Society.
