From the Director
A Big Thank You for Stone Soup!
| |
Our music teacher, Mr. Nathan Mays, reading to students at the Stone Soup Harvest Festival |
Dear Mountain Song Community,
I want to take a moment to express my deep gratitude to everyone who made our Stone Soup Harvest Festival so special. From the families who shared their time and ingredients, and the teachers who helped bring the story to life, to the Festivals committee who helps carry on this tradition year after year, this event wouldn’t have been the same without each of you. It was truly a beautiful example of what we can achieve when we come together. Thank you for your generosity and commitment to this community!
Warmly,
Nate Mylin
Director of Education

The Parent Circle has resumed its "Little Playdates," offering a fun opportunity for younger siblings of Mountain Song students (ages 0-5) to make friends and play together. Parents can watch their little ones grow while connecting with other Mountain Song families. The playdates take place every other Monday, with the next one scheduled for October 21st, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Penrose Library. This session will feature a pumpkin craft and seasonal stories. For more information, please contact pcchair@mountainsongschool.com
A special puzzle was found at the Rummage sale and we have a feeling the original owner might want it back. If this looks familiar, please reach out to our MSCS Board President (and rummage sale organizer extraordinaire), Becky Mikita at bmikita@mountainsongschool.org
First Grade Nature Rainbows
Check out the stunning nature rainbow created by Ms. Lily’s 1st graders in Ag Arts this week! Using leaves, flowers, and other natural materials they found during a scavenger hunt, the students brought the colors of nature to life in this project. It’s amazing to see how much beauty can be found and crafted right from the earth! Great job, young artists!
To get a peek into the classrooms, be sure to follow along on Facebook and Instagram and join the Mountain Song Families Private Facebook Group. Be sure to answer the questions and agree to the group rules. As always, please post responsibly!

Día De Los Muertos
Week of October 21st
| |
Click on the video to get a peek at last year's Día de los Muertos performance
As you may know Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a traditional Mexican celebration that honors the memory of loved ones who have passed. It's a celebration we recognize each and every year here at Mountain Song.
During the week of October 21st, our students will take part in various activities to mark the occasion, with our students in grades 3-8 creating sugar skulls. On Friday, October 25th we will have a special performance during the morning assembly! Grown-ups are very welcome. Please make sure you check in at the front desk.
To make this occasion as meaningful as possible, we need your help.
If your able, please bring...
- Fresh or dried marigolds. You can drop them off at the front desk
-
Items for the Ofrenda on the stage. These could be items that remind you of a loved one, pictures, or even items from a beloved pet. Please make sure all items are labeled with child's name and teacher so they can be safely returned.
The vibrant traditions of Día de los Muertos remind us to embrace the cycle of life and death with gratitude and joy. We’re excited to celebrate this special holiday with our community.

Help us Build a Gaga Pit!
Calling all parents with construction experience! We’re looking for volunteers to help build a Gaga Pit for our students. If you have skills, tools, and a little time to spare, we’d love your help in creating this fun addition to our playground. Let’s build something great together. To help, contact our Parent Circle Chair at PCChair@mountiansongschool.org
Glow Dance
Friday, November 1st, 5:30 - 8 p.m.
| |
Please join us for our Glow Dance and Ag Arts Pizza Party on Friday, November 1st from 5:30 - 8pm. There will be no school that day due to parent teacher conferences, but the dance will still occur that evening.
Tickets to the dance are $5 for all attendees (including adults) and include a bag of popcorn. As always, qualifying families will be admitted at no cost. All sales will benefit our Agricultural Arts program! We plan to host the event outside, weather permitting.
Individual-sized pizzas will be for sale for $5. There will be three pizza options: cheese, pepperoni, and veggie. All pizzas will feature pizza sauce made from Mountain Song tomatoes and herbs, as well as dough made by our 6th graders. Our veggie pizza will use seasonal veggies from our school garden!

We'll be setting up all lost and found items along the fence on 29th Street until 3:45 p.m. TODAY. It's a great chance for students and guardians to easily look through and claim any missing belongings. Any items left at the end of the day will be donated to our Clothes Bin. Don’t miss out!
