Building Support That Helps Teachers

One of the things we care about most at Parent Circle is making sure that the support we offer teachers is genuinely helpful, respectful, and sustainable. Family involvement can be such a strength in our school community when it’s organized, aligned with classroom needs, and supportive of teacher boundaries.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been thinking a lot about how we can strengthen our classroom representative structure in a way that feels clear, welcoming, and truly useful; without adding extra responsibilities to teachers’ already full plates.

This week, we had the opportunity to connect directly with teachers and hear what types of support feel most meaningful. We want to incorporate that feedback thoroughly, we’ll be pushing the Parent Circle meeting back one week to Friday, January 23 at 3:45PM (location TBD).

Thank you for your flexibility as we build something that supports both our teachers and our families!

If you’d like to join the conversation, please feel free to email Stephanie Nickel at PCchair@MountainSongSchool.com

Late Pick-Up Policy

Mountain Song students are expected to be picked up at the end of the school day within 15 minutes of dismissal time. When students are still at school after that, they are brought to the front office to await their ride, and parents will be called at that point. If you know that you will be late picking up your children, please notify the front office immediately.

After 2 instances of late pick up, Mountain Song may charge parents or guardians for repeated late pick-ups, as this requires our staff to stay later than planned and impacts our budget. The rates charged for each student not picked up within the 15-minute grace period are:

● Picked up 15-30 minutes from dismissal time: $20 per occurrence

● Picked up 30-45 minutes from dismissal time: $30 per occurrence

● Picked up 45-60 minutes from dismissal time: $40 per occurrence

● Picked up 60+ minutes from dismissal time: $50 per occurrence

MAP Testing Window | January 19 – February 13

Our students will be participating in MAP testing from January 19 - February 13.

MAP is an online, adaptive assessment that measures student growth in math, reading, and language over time. Because it adjusts to each student’s responses, it helps teachers understand what students know and what they’re ready to learn next.

In DPS, Pathway and Alternative Education Centers use MAP as part of the state accountability system, making this assessment an important part of both instruction and accountability.

Please note that no field trips will be scheduled from January 19 - February 13 due to MAP testing. Maintaining a consistent, calm, and focused environment helps students do their best and allows testing to run smoothly across all grade levels.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation, professionalism, and support in helping make this testing window successful for our students.

Garden Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed on weekends and school holidays to support our school garden throughout the year.

Volunteering is a great opportunity to support our school, get out in nature, and provide your family a fun day together. Volunteering requires watering the garden and checking on our animals.

At the end of each month, slots will open up for the following month, which means slots are now open for September.

If you've never volunteered before, our Ag Arts teachers will schedule a brief training with you to make sure you are fully prepared! If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Adam at awright@mountainsongschool.com.
