From the Director

Completed Handwork Projects!

Dear Mountain Song Families,

We had a wonderful first day back—thank you for helping make it so smooth and joyful! It’s always such a gift to see the students reconnect, explore, and settle back into their rhythms. And, of course, we never get tired of seeing their beautiful work (see above)!

Play season is officially in full swing, and if you’re new to Mountain Song, you’ll quickly see how much our students learn through this unique and magical process. From teamwork to storytelling to courage on stage—it’s a beautiful part of our curriculum.

Keep an eye out for emails from your teachers with all the details you’ll need for the weeks ahead.

Warmly,

Mr. Nate Mylin

Director of Education

Class Plays in a Waldorf School

Why, How You Can Help, and Audience Etiquette

2024 Huckleberry Class Play

Why do we have class plays in a Waldorf school? While it certainly is fun to see our children on stage in costume working their way through their lines, is there more to it? Our teachers devote several weeks and lots of energy to help students prepare for a play. What is all that time and effort for?

A primary reason is that each play relates to the students’ curriculum, and they get a chance to embody, and literally play, what they have been learning about this year.

Plays also provide students huge opportunities for growth and maturity. They work hard to memorize lines, stand in the right place, remember their cues, keep their costume and props organized, and practice every day to get it all in order. When it comes time to perform on stage, so many feelings arise, and then it happens! They go on stage and do their best, and it all comes together! Suddenly all their work and attention becomes clear for the first time. Their families, friends, teachers, and staff members all confirm that they did something big, and they can celebrate knowing that they are capable of big things. Where could they go in their futures knowing that about themselves?

May Faire is Coming!

Mark your calendars—May Faire is just around the corner (and yes, it counts as a school day—woohoo!). This is a beloved Mountain Song tradition, and it takes all hands on deck to make it as magical and beautiful as our students deserve. Keep an eye out for sign-up sheets from your child’s teacher to see how you can help.

We also invite everyone to wear white as we joyfully usher in spring together! We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Calling All Makers, Artists, and Doers!

We’re gearing up for another amazing May Faire Silent Auction, which raises thousands for our school each year. We’re constantly in awe of the talented parents in our community—artists, entrepreneurs, crafters, builders, bakers—you name it!

If you’ve got a skill, product, or service, tickets to an event, or even a vacation home you’d like to donate, we’d love to include it. Every contribution helps, and it all goes toward supporting our students.

Please take a moment to fill out the form attached and let us know how you’d like to share your time or talents. Thank you for helping us make this event a success!

Best Grant Updates

As you may know, Mountain Song has been awarded over $10 million in funding through the Colorado Department of Education’s BEST Grant! This grant will allow us to make significant improvements to our school facilities—enhancements that will benefit our students and school community for years to come.

As we move closer to the start of construction, we want to keep you informed and help set expectations.

Here’s what you should know...

  • Fencing will go up shortly after May Faire
  • Construction will begin after the end of the school year
  • There will be noise, dust, and temporary disruptions to normal routines

We know that construction may bring a few inconveniences, but we are confident that these upgrades will have a positive and lasting impact on our learning environment.

Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and continued support as we begin this exciting new chapter for our school.

If you have any questions, please contact our Director of Operations, Brian Honeycutt.

Enrollment for SY2025/26

1st Grade Watercolor Art

Thinking about Mountain Song for 2025-2026?

We’re already seeing waitlists in almost every grade for next school year! If you feel like MSCS could be the right fit for your child, we encourage prospective families to fill out the Intent to Enroll (or Homeschool Intent to Enroll) form sooner rather than later to secure a spot on the list.

Current families—if you haven’t submitted your Save My Seat form yet, please don’t wait! It’s incredibly important for us to know how many students are returning so we can plan class sizes, staffing, and resources for next year. Thanks for helping us get a clear picture for the 2025–2026 school year!

Curious to learn more about what makes Mountain Song special? We’d love to show you around—join us for a school tour on April 24th!
