We can not believe that it is almost May! We have plenty of activities planned for May as we gear up for Summer. We have added a Lifestyle Event Calendar to the Association website. You can find all events posted with registration links.

The Easter events were a blast and very well attended. We hope that you all had as much fun as we did!

Lawn Maintenance: Spring is here and weeds need to be treated. Are you having trouble identifying or treating weeds in your yard? Maybe this article from Gardening and Landscaping will help.

Parking: Please be mindful of your neighbors if you must park on the street. Mailboxes and fire hydrants should remain accessible at all times. Do not block sidewalks with vehicles or play equipment such as bikes or sports equipment.

Pets: We know your pets are family members. As the temperatures rise, remember to provide plenty of water and shade for outdoor pets. Please keep them leashed and clean up after them when out and about with your pet.

Property Modifications: Spring is a great time to get those outdoor projects done. Remember all exterior changes require approval from the Association. Once a completed application is submitted, the Board has 20 days to review and respond. Please allow time for review. Work completed without approval may be subject to fines.

Community Maintenance

Basketball Goal: The new backboard and actuator have been installed. Please remind children and their guests that they should not hang on or pull the baskets or nets.

Parking Lot Extension: The crews are wrapping up the parking lot extension. Once the concrete has had time to cure, a painting team will be in to stripe the lot.

We are excited to welcome Julie Thomas to the team. Julie will start in May and she already has exciting plans for the community.

As a native Texan, Julie’s experience in corporate and administrative functions including HR and Events began in the Dallas area. She has held roles including teaching children, organizing booster events for local sports teams, community volunteer, and working with senior adults in several active living communities. Julie is passionate about discovering the community in which we live, work, and play; enjoys fine arts as well as local traditions; celebrates special occasions, and takes adventures. Her desire is to engage the community through food, fun, and entertainment for all by having more fun today than we did yesterday!

Community News

Amenity Rentals: We are happy to provide the reservation/rental service of the Amenities. The facility has sustained minor damage from previous use and we want to ensure the facility is well maintained and clean for all residents. You may still use the facilities on a first come first serve basis; however, private events require a rental agreement and nominal rental fee.

Lunch N Learn

Date: Tuesday, May 3rd

Time: 12:00 PM

Location: Facebook Live

The community management team jumps on Facebook Live to spend time with the residents during a 30 - 45 minute virtual conversation.

The team will cover community updates and hot topics and answer questions directly from residents!

Cinco de Mayo Fiesta

Date: Thursday, May 5th

Time: 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Location: Amenity Center

Dance to the Amenity Center for some food, drinks, and music.

We will provide adult beverages to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

Food may be purchased from Williams Mobile Market Food Truck. Your friendly bartender will have drinks on the house.

Muffins with Mom

Date: Saturday, May 7th

Time: 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Location: Amenity Center

Help us celebrate all Sonoma Verde Moms. We will provide pastries, coffee, and juice from Sloans Sweet Treats in Rockwall.

This month's Crafty kids project will be provided during this event. You will want to bring your camera for family photos.

Please register so we know how many Moms to plan for.

Pool Opening

Date: Monday, May 18th

Time: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM

We know you are ready to dive right in. Please review the pool rules and verify your card access.

Pool Reminder/Updates

If you wish to have early access to Lap Swim, please register so your access cards can be programmed.

Lap Swim is for water exercise only. The open swim begins at 9 am daily, from May to October.

STEM Stars

Date: Wednesday, May 18th

Time: 12:00 PM

Location: Pickup at SV Amenity Center

*Spark* that curiosity for science, technology, engineering, and math with a fun project you can pick up from the Association office.

Kids ages 7-10 can jump into the exciting world of science and math with fun and entertaining at-home projects!

STEM Stars kits will be available for pickup at the Sonoma Verde Amenity Center beginning Wednesday, May 18th.

Parents can register for Crafty kids and STEM stars on the Association website. Look for the event on the Calendar and select register for event.

Slide into Summer

Date: Saturday, May 28th

Time: 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Location: Amenity Center

Let's all Slide into Summer at the Amenity center and fields.

Water slides and your favorite food trucks will be available to you, and True Vine Landscape will sponsor Snow cones from Kona Ice to celebrate the beginning of summer!

Freedom Through Fitness

Sonoma Verde will be hosting it's 1st Annual Freedom Through Fitness event May 30th. We will host a family fun run/walk and for those who choose, can partake in a "Murph" type event. Registration is now open.

There is no registration fee to participate; however, waivers will be required. All event items for purchase will benefit "Weekends With Warriors"

T-Shirts $15.00 each. Bottled water $1.00 each. Bliss Coffee will donate 10% of sales.

Plan to join us as we pay respect to those who give the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

News from the City of McLendon-Chisholm

McLendon-Chisholm News:

We understand the Community has questions regarding SH 205 and the expansion plans. TX DOT (Texas Department of Transportation) is responsible for this improvement/expansion. TxDOT schematic drawings for future improvements to SH 205 through McLendon-Chisholm are available for inspection at McLendon-Chisholm City Hall.

These drawings include primary grades, median openings (where applicable), and other aspects of the initial design. The schematic drawings may be inspected by appointment by calling Rick Crowley, Interim City Administrator, at 469-668-9895

What do you miss most about being a kid?

I miss spending time with extended family on my Grandparent's farm in East Texas. Aunts, Uncles, Cousins spending weekends and holidays playing and working on the farm.
