July 2020
Happy Summer,

At Sonoma Water Education, we sincerely hope you get a break from the back and forth of trying to plan for an uncertain future and enjoy some of the simple pleasures of summer. Perhaps it's just the taste of a perfectly ripe plum or waking up to a clear blue sky or sitting outside on a warm evening with family or a friend. Whatever it might be, summer is upon us and is meant to be enjoyed, especially so for teachers.

However, if you have some extra time, read on to learn about a few of our summer offerings. We are partnering with other water utilities in the Bay Area to provide an upcoming professional development opportunity related to wastewater and careers in the water industry. Also, if you are hoping to add outdoor education to your options for next school year, please let us know by filling out a short survey put together by the Sonoma Environmental Education Collaborative (SEEC). You will also find a link to a publication from the California Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (AEOE) with a compelling argument for the many benefits of teaching outdoors and in nature.

Come August, look for our 2020/2021 Water and Energy Education flier in your mailbox with information about our distance learning opportunities and free classroom supplies for the coming school year.

In the meantime, be well, and soak up some summer sun,

Please help us plan for next school year in ways that will most benefit you and your students. This short survey asks 9 questions like: Will your district allow field trips? Will visitors be allowed at your school site? How can we support you as you take your students outdoors? Help us provide you with the support you need.

Created by the Sonoma Environmental Education Collaborative (SEEC) a partnership of local environmental education organizations dedicated to increasing environmental literacy for all students in Sonoma County.

Use this publication as a resource for information about the value of Environmental Education in providing multiple benefits to students as we navigate the challenges brought on by COVID-19. It provides helpful information on how to partner with community resources to support your interest in using the outdoors as your classroom.
