Sonora High School Career Day!

Sonora residents are invited to support local students during Sonora High School Career Day on April 8th, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM at Bud Castle Gym.

This event gives students the opportunity to explore different career paths and learn about the many possibilities available after high school. Local businesses and organizations will share insights about their industries, helping students connect classroom learning with real world careers.

Cal-Waste will also have a booth at the event, where our team will showcase the many different career opportunities available within our company, from drivers and mechanics to environmental services, operations, and more.

Career Day is a great opportunity for students to gain inspiration, ask questions, and begin thinking about their future. Events like this help strengthen the connection between our schools, local businesses, and the community.

Join us on June 15th from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Cal-Waste Recovery Systems, 328 W. Stockton Street, for a Networking Mixer and Ribbon Cutting celebration. Community members, local businesses, and Chamber representatives are invited to stop by, enjoy light refreshments, and connect with others in the Sonora area.

Chamber mixers are a great opportunity to meet and mingle with fellow community members and local business owners. Everyone is welcome. No Chamber membership required. Feel free to bring a friend and join us for an evening of networking and community connection.

Proud to Support The Litter & Tobacco Clean Up!

Cal-Waste was proud to support the Tobacco and Litter Volunteer Clean Up held in Downtown Sonora on February 1st. This community driven effort brought volunteers together to help remove litter and tobacco waste from our local streets and public spaces.

Events like this play an important role in protecting local wildlife, preventing stormwater pollution, and keeping the City of Sonora clean and welcoming for residents and visitors alike. By reducing litter before it enters our waterways, we help preserve the natural beauty that makes our community so special.

We appreciate the partnership with Tuolumne County Public Health Tobacco Prevention Program and thank all the volunteers who dedicated their time to making a difference.

At Cal-Waste, we remain committed to supporting community initiatives that promote environmental responsibility, sustainability, and civic pride. Together, we can continue working toward a cleaner, healthier Sonora.

Cal-Waste Proudly Supports Tuolumne County MTN Outlaws Girls Softball League

Cal-Waste is proud to support the Tuolumne County MTN Outlaws Girls Fastpitch league and the incredible young athletes who represent our community on and off the field.

Local youth sports programs like MTN Outlaws help build confidence, teamwork, leadership, and discipline while creating lifelong friendships and memories. We believe investing in programs that empower young girls through athletics!

Supporting organizations that bring families together and encourage healthy, active lifestyles aligns with our commitment to serving the Sonora area beyond waste and recycling services. We are honored to stand behind the MTN Outlaws and cheer them on throughout the season.

Attention Sonora Residents!

LEARN ALL ABOUT GREEN WASTE!

Green waste carts are for organic yard materials such as grass clippings, leaves, pine needles, and branches from pruning.

Paper yard waste bags are allowed and can be placed directly into the green waste cart bag and all. Please remember that plastic bags are never allowed.

When pruning branches, be sure to cut them down so the cart lid can fully close. A good rule of thumb is to keep branches no thicker than the width of your upper arm.

Items that do not belong in the green waste cart include plastic bags, rocks, cement, sod, and large amounts of dirt or soil. Small amounts of dirt are acceptable if attached to plants, but loose soil cannot be collected.

A Special Rescue at Cal-Waste

A tiny kitten was recently discovered hiding underneath a recycling truck in our mechanics’ shop. Safely rescued by our team and now named Shelli, she is receiving care through Purrfectly Pawsible, a nonprofit dedicated to helping community cats.

Her story is also a reminder to check carts for animals before setting them out or bringing them back in, especially during cooler months when small animals may seek shelter.

If you would like to learn more about Shelli or give her a forever home, visit Purrfectly Pawsible on Facebook.

Glass Recycling Made Simple

Learn the Do's and Don'ts of recycling glass jars and bottles. Be sure to leave the lids on, and don’t worry if the glass is broken. During processing, materials are broken down and magnets separate the metal lids so they can be recycled properly.

Small steps at home make a big difference in keeping our recycling stream clean and effective. For more recycling tips and to learn what goes where, visit www.Cal-Waste.com.
