9th Graders and any new Raiders, Welcome to Sonora High School, and thank you for making us your new academic home. One of the most essential devices to be a successful Raider is your Chromebook. If you have not received your Chromebook, please click the button below to sign up for a date and time for Chromebook pick-up! To receive your Chromebook you must print, sign, and bring the following documents by clicking on their names:  Acceptable Use of Technology Form and the Chromebook Insurance Form. You are strongly encouraged to purchase insurance for your Chromebook. To do this, then please click the button below. We have step-by-step instructions to even set up your account.
For all returning students, we wanted to take this opportunity to encourage you once again to purchase Chromebook Insurance. Chromebook insurance is an annual request. This means if you would like to continue to have your device covered for any accidental damage, then you should purchase Chromebook Insurance. Please click the first link to signify if you would like to purchase insurance or not, then please please click the second link below to go through the Webstore to make your purchase. Please be sure to fill out the Google Form first.
Fourth of July
Independence Day was Sunday and we hope that you were able to safely enjoy time with your family and friends. This federal holiday in the United States commemorates the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. This was the legal separation of the thirteen original colonies from Great Britain and they were now united, free, and independent states. The vote actually occurred on July 2 but was not declared officially until July 4th.

Fireworks are ceremonial for this holiday because on July 4th, when the colonies declared independence, there were 13 cannon shots to represent the freedom of the colonies. Over the years the cannon shots have translated to fireworks. Many shows represent the independence of the states by having a combination of 50 fireworks annually.
Raider College Bootcamp
 A huge Raider Shout-Out goes to Mrs. Marjie Blevins for putting together our Free College Bootcamp. 

This Bootcamp takes students through the college application process from preparing a Brag Sheet to knowing their college options, through the essay writing process. Over 60 students attended each day this year--students from La Habra High School, Whittier Christian, and Sonora. While several freshmen, sophomores, and juniors came, the population was comprised primarily of seniors. Attendees read and studied 21 short essays (UC's and supplementary essays), 15 long essays (Common App and other long supplementary essays)--all written by Sonora students--except for two--, and reviewed numerous literary terms writers utilize in narrative essays. They also confirmed their teachers who will write for them and learned about the different college systems

"30 alums came back to provide college application advice to the kids, mentor them in small groups, read their own college essays out loud, and give their e-mail addresses to help them in the future. I methodically invited kids who represented each of the college systems in our state (the UC's) and in our country (state schools, community colleges, Ivy League schools, private schools, military schools, religious schools)."

We want to also thank Ms. Appenrodt and Mr. Smith for also attended.  Ms. Appenrodt gave them excellent advice on applications, finances, and deadlines.
Business Days
Business Days, formerly known as Orientation, will be here before we know it. As we enter the second half of the summer, we want you to save the dates for your Raider Business Days.  These will be the days that you will come to campus to take care of important business so that you are ready to start learning on our first day of school, August 16th.

All families must complete Data Confirmation to proceed through these days. We will send out more information about this process by July 18th.

IB Update
One of our programs of excellence at Sonora High School is our International Baccalaureate Programme. Here is a little why this is program is an example of excellence. Last year 39 of the 40 Diploma candidates received the diploma!! Most in school history. The highest diplomas were Emily Styx and Anya Shah. (both received 41 points)

These are not only the most diplomas awarded in Sonora history- but the average diploma score is among the highest ever as well. The most impressive part is that these students were well-rounded. They were athletes, musicians, dancers, and just normal video gaming teenagers. 

Over half of them are also first-generation- and they are heading into college with not only units but skills that will continue to propel them along!

Every subject did well- with many 100 percent pass rates- or one student from that. Congratulations to Marjie Blevins who continues her amazing 100 percent pass rate for almost 33 years!!
Best Buds

Are you a kind, caring individual that loves working with our students with special needs? If so, then Best Buds is the club for you!!! Best Buds is an organization dedicated to ending the social and physical isolation of people with disabilities. There are monthly Best Buds activities that are meaningful to all of the students involved. This is an opportunity to make life-long friendships.

Athletics
Our Athletic teams are in full swing. If you are interested in any of our sports teams, then please click the link below to go through our Athletic Clearance Process.

ATHLETIC CLEARANCE PROCESS
ALL Sports Including Cheer, Dance, JROTC & Band Must Register

1) Go to AthleticClearance.com
  • Create an account and complete all sections: Watch the video on by clicking here: AthleticClearance.com for detailed instructions.   
  • **Very Important** Choose “Sonora” (CIF-SS)” on the list and the School Year "2021/2022"

2) Print out Confirmation Page from AthleticClearance.com
  • Print & Fill Out (Both parent & student signature is required)
  • Please be advised that each sport/activity will require a separate confirmation page.
3) You must complete all 4 pages of the Physical Evaluation Forms 

  1. Print & Fill Out all 4 pages (Both Parent & Student signature is required)
  2. Pages 1-2 are filled out by the Parent(s) and Student 
  3. Page 3-4 MUST be COMPLETED, SIGNED, and DATED by PHYSICIAN. 
  • Only the Signature from an MD, DO or PA will be accepted. Signatures from Chiropractors and Nurse Practitioners are NOT accepted. 
  • NO PHOTOCOPIES will be accepted. 
  • Student's Physical & Physical Form Must be Completed After May 15th  

4) Athletic clearance paperwork will be collected by sport. Check with your coach to find out when your sport will be turning in their athletic clearance paperwork.  
 
5) Athletic Waivers
