Meet
Dr. Barry
My name is Jacqueline Barry and I am the Assistant Principal of Student Services. I began my teaching career in 2002 and was fortunate to join the Fullerton Joint Union High School District in 2015. Since this time, I have served as a Dean, Assistant Principal of Student Services, and Assistant Principal of Student Affairs for Sonora High School. I love working at Sonora High School because it is an amazing school with many opportunities for all students.
I have always had a passion for education. At three years old I would walk my big sister daily to her kindergarten classroom from my grandmother’s house and longed to stay with her. I still love learning and am certainly a life-long learner. My parents instilled in me the value of education, and I work hard to get our students to also understand the power of education. As an educator, I am honored that I am able to make a difference in the lives of our students and their families. I enjoy making connections with students and finding ways to help support them along their journey. I love being able to help students realize their full potential.
Here are ten little known facts that will help us become better acquainted:
Where did you grow up? I have always lived in Southern California. I was born in Long Beach and grew up in Cerritos, Yorba Linda, and Foothill Ranch.
What do you like to do in your free time? love being outside in the sun, and my favorite thing to do is go to the beach or pool and go swimming with my family.
Why did you go into education? I always knew I wanted to help people, and being in education provides me this opportunity.
What keeps you in education? What makes me stay in education is learning about the successes of my former students and hearing that I made a positive impact on their lives.
What is one odd thing about you? I LOVE to put ridiculous amounts of salsa on many of the items that I eat! In fact, the first fight I ever had with my husband was because he was embarrassed by how many salsa containers I filled up to go with my meal.
What is your favorite sport's team? I used to root for the Chargers (since I went to school in San Diego), but since they moved to Los Angeles, I am now supporting my husband and as a Green Bay Packers fan.
Who is the most influential person in your life? I would say it is a tie between my mother and my father. My mother taught me the importance of being strong and independent, and my father taught me that family must always be your number one priority.
Did you play any sports when you were in high school? I was a swimmer. I was also in choir and drama.
What is your favorite dessert? I really don’t eat much dessert, but when I do it has to be something chocolate!
