Sonora's E-Sports Team
Your Sonora Overwatch Esports Team has punched their ticket to the regional finals of the NASEF Play-In Tournament with their 3-2 win over West Valley High School. We were down 0-2 and reverse swept our opponents after finding our win condition. Our players even had to overcome one of their teammates disconnecting in the middle of a game due to a power failure.

Special shout out to Allan Nava for playing his first official match in this semi-final match-up. We could not have won without him.

Special thanks to these gentlemen who participated:
Connor Hayes (Team Co-Captain)
Aidan Matta
Michael Hyun
Ethan Hernandez
Ezekiel Torres
Allan Nava

Special thanks to Anjali Jauregui, our Overwatch Head Coach, and Raider alumni, for her hard work coaching the team on a weekly basis.

The regional finals will take place next week. GO RAIDERS!!!

Calling All Alumni
In an effort to recognize the vast accomplishments of our Sonora High School Alumni, and those who have made an impact at Sonora and throughout our community, a "Hall of Fame" has been established. A Hall of Fame nominee should be successful in their career and be involved in their community.  Please complete the following Digital Nomination Form to nominate your candidate or download the form HERE.

Sonora High School prides itself on its legacy and the individuals that have contributed to making Sonora the incredible place we've grown to love.  We are proud to announce that we are cultivating a Walk of Fame and are in the process of accepting photos to include for our newest endeavor as we aim to honor and highlight our past Raiders. Please submit your photos to Mr. Atkins at matkins@fjuhsd.org

Students of the Quarter
Each quarter our departments chooses two students to recognize. One student showed the largest academic growth and the other student worked hard to maintain academic excellence throughout the quarter.
Ramon Zamora is a Freshmen Student of the Quarter nominated by our Agriculture Department. Ramon has committed to our Agriculture Department by taking two Agriculture classes, Sustainable Agriculture and Shop Skills. With his grades and dedication in these classes and maintaining a 3.5 GPA, Ramon has a bright future in whatever his aspirations are.

Good job Ramon!!
Sarah Baker was nominated by our Math Department. Sarah is a great student who gives 100% in all her work. She has many setbacks in life, however, you will never be able to tell with her remarkable attitude and terrific work ethic. She always does her work neatly and on time. She is one of the few students who say thank you and bye when leaving the zoom meeting. Not only is she an exceptional student, but an astonishing person as well.

Congratulations Sarah!!
Jeksin Ghanem was nominated by our Science Department. Jeksin demonstrates tremendous effort, is eager to learn, stays after class for extra help, gets extra tutoring when needed, and asks questions in and out of class. Inspiring other students.

Thank you Jeksin for being a model Raider!!
Olivia Armas thoroughly masters each concept in IB Biology leading to consistently high test scores. Her passion for learning is evident as she develops her own inquiry-based lab experiments. Her lab work is highly detailed.

Meet
Dr. Barry

My name is Jacqueline Barry and I am the Assistant Principal of Student Services.  I began my teaching career in 2002 and was fortunate to join the Fullerton Joint Union High School District in 2015.  Since this time, I have served as a Dean, Assistant Principal of Student Services, and Assistant Principal of Student Affairs for Sonora High School.  I love working at Sonora High School because it is an amazing school with many opportunities for all students.

I have always had a passion for education.  At three years old I would walk my big sister daily to her kindergarten classroom from my grandmother’s house and longed to stay with her.  I still love learning and am certainly a life-long learner.  My parents instilled in me the value of education, and I work hard to get our students to also understand the power of education.  As an educator, I am honored that I am able to make a difference in the lives of our students and their families.  I enjoy making connections with students and finding ways to help support them along their journey.  I love being able to help students realize their full potential.

Here are ten little known facts that will help us become better acquainted:
Where did you grow up? I have always lived in Southern California.  I was born in Long Beach and grew up in Cerritos, Yorba Linda, and Foothill Ranch.
What do you like to do in your free time?  love being outside in the sun, and my favorite thing to do is go to the beach or pool and go swimming with my family.
Why did you go into education? I always knew I wanted to help people, and being in education provides me this opportunity.
What keeps you in education? What makes me stay in education is learning about the successes of my former students and hearing that I made a positive impact on their lives.
What is one odd thing about you? I LOVE to put ridiculous amounts of salsa on many of the items that I eat!  In fact, the first fight I ever had with my husband was because he was embarrassed by how many salsa containers I filled up to go with my meal.
What is your favorite sport's team? I used to root for the Chargers (since I went to school in San Diego), but since they moved to Los Angeles, I am now supporting my husband and as a Green Bay Packers fan.
Who is the most influential person in your life? I would say it is a tie between my mother and my father.  My mother taught me the importance of being strong and independent, and my father taught me that family must always be your number one priority.
Did you play any sports when you were in high school?  I was a swimmer.  I was also in choir and drama.
What is your favorite dessert?  I really don’t eat much dessert, but when I do it has to be something chocolate!
What is your favorite quote?
