Calling All Alumni
We would like to work with our all of alumni to create a Walk of Fame and Hall of Fame. The Walk of Fame will be a collage of pictures from each decade along the interior entrance of our school. In working with our Athletic Director, Mr. Lodding, we have talked about doing something in the lobby area of the large gym for the Hall of Fame for anyone who has made an impact on Sonora. We will have a meeting next week on December 9th at 5:30 pm via Zoom so that we can talk more about the submission of these projects. We invite you and any alumni to come to this meeting. We need our alumni and/or former teachers to help us make this project as successful as possible. Please feel free to post and share this information and the link for our meeting, which is here:  Walk/Hall of Fame.

Students of the Quarter
Each quarter our departments chooses two students to recognize. One student showed the largest academic growth and the other student worked hard to maintain academic excellence throughout the quarter.
Owen Lefebvre has been selected by Social Science Department- Owen is extremely interested in the political arena, and has worked tirelessly on several campaigns where he picked up many useful skills that will serve him well both inside and outside of the classroom. He has committed to challenging himself this year as an IB Diploma candidate, and is rising to this challenge admirably.

Good job Owen!!
Vanessa Castillo has been selected by our Gaming Program as their Student of the Quarter. Over her four years at Sonora High School Vanessa has committed to the Gaming Program, ASB, and to our AG Program. In each of those programs she has not just participated, but she has left a positive impression.

Vanessa is one of our Raiders who you can count on to have a positive outlook.

Congratulations Vanessa!!
Eva Magdaleno has been selected by our F.A.C.E. Program. Eva has been such a fun and enthusiastic student to get to know. As a freshman, she goes above and beyond with participating in zoom lessons, and always has a positive attitude.  .

Thank you Eva for being a model Raider!!
Lillian Alcocer was selected by our F.A.C.E Program. Lilian is a very hard worker who is always prepared for class. She has continued to work hard during zoom and maintained her good work habits during quarantine and the hybrid schedule.

Way to go Lillian!!

Please drop off and pick up in only the designated areas.

Meet
Mrs. Wright

My name is Katie Wright, and I am so proud to be in my 3rd year as a Sonora Raider serving as your Assistant Principal of Pupil Services! I knew I wanted to be a teacher in 6th grade after having met my own 6th grade teacher, one of the most gracious and compassionate women I have ever had the privilege of knowing! By my junior year in high school, I knew my calling was to be an English teacher where I could share my love of the written word through wonderful works of fiction and using key rhetorical devices to craft the perfect argument! I taught middle school English for several years, but ultimately, I knew I wanted to be on a high school campus. I served as an ELD Coordinator, Instructional Coach, and English teacher in the Orange Unified School District at the high school level until 2018 when I left to pursue administration with FJUHSD. I have been fortunate, throughout my career, to work with students in special populations and helping them to fulfill their full potential. I believe passionately in student equity and meeting students where they are, so we can help lift them up and take them where they want to go.

Here are ten little known facts that will help us become better acquainted:
Where did you grow up? I grew up right here in Orange County, California and spent most of my child and young adult life in the city of Orange before moving to Riverside County in 2011.
What do you like to do in your free time? My absolute favorite thing to do is see live music. I also love going to Disneyland with my husband, and playing with my toy poodle, Snickerdoodle. Although, I have only been able to do one of these things since last March.
Why did you go into education? Simply put, I love learning! I have always loved school myself, and I wanted to try to instill my passion and love for learning in kids who may not have had the opportunities I was fortunate enough to have. It's never too late to develop a love for learning when you have people rallying behind you and making you feel like you can achieve your goals!
What keeps you in education? The "lightbulb moments"...when you can see on a student's face that they finally "get" an idea or concept that, as an educator, you've been working with them on.
What is one odd thing about you? I dislike onions, but I like onion rings and onion dip!
What is your favorite sport's team? My husband would disown me if I did not say the Lakers! In the past, we have had full rooms in our house devoted to them. I'm talking purple and yellow walls, Lakers wallpaper borders, the whole 9 yards!
Who is your most influential person in your life? Without a doubt that would be my mom who passed in 2018. She was the true definition of devotion when it came to me and supported me in every endeavor I ever attempted.
Did you play any sports when you were in high school? I was the goalie for our water polo team and was also on the swim team. Unfortunately, during my junior year I blew out my knee which forced me to quit water polo, and take up golf instead! I was on the golf team my senior year, and it quickly became apparent that I should stick to the castles and windmills of mini golf!
What is your favorite dessert? I would have to say either fruit tarts or cupcakes.
What is your favorite quote? "To be great is to be misunderstood."- Ralph Waldo Emerson
I Believe in You
Current health conditions, economic pressures that many may face this time of year, studying for finals, waiting for college acceptance are all potential stressors this time of year.

I would like to leave you with a lesson that I taught my son when learning to ride his bike. I took him to the neighborhood park when I first taught him to ride his bike without training wheels. He was riding and fell off. I ran over to him hastily and started to wipe away the tears and dust him off. I held him up by his chin and I said "Look, James!! Look how far you've come. You can make it, I believe in you. You can make it the rest of the way around the circle."  He got back on his bike and made it the rest of the way and got off of the bike with the biggest smile on his face. I want to encourage you, my Raider family, we have come a mighty long way since March 2020. I believe in each one of you!! We can make it the rest of the way around this together.

When presented with challenges and need some encouragement, at times, I want to just hear this: And Still, I Rise.

Please take care of yourselves mentally. Here is the link to the FJUHSD calming rooms; FJUHSD Calming Rooms if you just need the time to refocus yourselves.

We are here for you. Please let us know if there is anything that we can do for you.
