Hybrid/Cohort Information

Beginning November 2, 2020, Sonora High School will begin a Hybrid Model. Students assigned to Cohort A will attend classes on campus on Monday and Thursday, and students in Cohort B will attend classes on campus on Tuesday and Friday. Cohort C will continue through virtual distance learning. On Wednesdays, ALL three Cohorts (A, B, and C) will receive instruction through Distance Learning. Cohort change requests must be made via email to the students counselor directly from a parent. Please be advised that requests to move between Cohort A or B is based solely on space availability and we can not guarantee your request will be approved. You may email your counselors or fill out this form if you would like to change your Cohort. ASB Reopening Video
Our Associated Student Body (ASB) is a student organization on campus to represent the goals and interests of all of the students on a school campus. Sonora Student Spotlight
One of the pillar programs at Sonora High School is our Agriculture Pathways. One of our Juniors in the program is Savannah Grove who will be serving as a National Future Farmers of America Delegates next week at the Virtual National FFA Convention. This is a huge honor since only 42 students are selected from throughout the state to represent the 90,000 members of the California FFA. Mrs. Riley says, "Savannah is a genuine hard working student who is always looking to improve the member experience through her service as our chapter Vice President and the Orange Section Treasurer. Her infectious personality always lights up the meetings and activities she is involved in." Thank you Savannah for being such a model Sonora student!!

Exemplar Student Work Corner

The brilliant and creative IB English students spent the week collaborating in teams to develop their own podcasts that analyzed a chapter of the war novel, "The Things They Carried." Each group was assigned a specific chapter to examine for pertinent elements of craft, themes, and global issues, discussing such concepts as the subjectivity of truth, the extreme trauma and PTSD experienced by military veterans, and the morally destructive nature that warfare has on young soldiers. Their final projects then conveyed those main ideas to the rest of their peers through engaging and authentic podcasts, which turned out amazing! We are so proud of their hard work, creativity, and depth of analysis!

Sonora's First Golden Apple Recipient
We have begun a monthly recognition of our teachers called the Golden Apple Award. We are going alphabetically through all of the departments and will recommend one outstanding person per department per month. This is just a small token of our appreciation to you for all of your hard work.

Our first department was Career Technical Education (CTE) and the recipient was Cory Witt. Cory is a 21 year teaching veteran and a Sonora alum. This year he is co-chair of the CTE Department. He has completed all of the California Partnership Academy Grant renewal application to ensure continued state funding for the Medical Careers Academy and the Gaming Program. Corey has 54 students in the second year of the Medical Careers Program who are receiving college credits through their Dual Enrollment course work. Corey was able to walk the students through the application process, arrange the specialized technology needed for the coursework and now he is guiding our students who may have thought that college was just a dream through the course. When Cory is not in the classroom, he is on the soccer field mentoring the younger coaches while guiding the boys and girls' soccer teams.

The Witt Family is committed to Sonora High School. He has a daughter, Kailey, who is a senior and a Freshman, Riley.

AP and IB Test Registration is Open!!

AP and IB exams are administered in May, but registration has been open and closes November 7th! Please go to the Sonora Webstore to pay for your student’s exams. These exams are designed for students currently enrolled in AP and IB courses. Please click the link below to pay.

Athletics
ATHLETIC CLEARANCE PROCESS
ALL Sports Including Cheer, Dance & Band Must Register

1) Go to AthleticClearance.com
  • Create an account and complete all sections: Watch the video on AthleticClearance.com for detailed instructions.   
  • **Very Important** Choose “Sonora” (CIF-SS)” on the list and the School Year "2020/2021"
2) Print out Confirmation Page from AthleticClearance.com
  • Print & Fill Out (Both parent & student signature is required)
  • Please be advised that each sport/activity will require a separate confirmation page.
3) You must complete all 4 pages of the Physical Evaluation Forms 
  1. Print & Fill Out all 4 pages (Both Parent & Student signature is required)
  2. Pages 1-2 are filled out by the Parent(s) and Student 
  3. Page 3-4 MUST be COMPLETED, SIGNED, and DATED by PHYSICIAN. 
  • Only the Signature from an MD, DO or PA will be accepted. Signatures from Chiropractors and Nurse Practitioners are NOT accepted. 
  • NO PHOTOCOPIES will be accepted. 
  • Student's Physical & Physical Form Must be Completed After May 15th  

4) Athletic clearance paperwork will be collected by sport. Check with your coach to find out when your sport will be turning in their athletic clearance paperwork.  
 
5) Athletic Waivers: Athletic Waivers must be turned in with Athletic Clearance. View and download Waiver HERE
