Postsecondary Counseling Newsletter

March 5th, 2025

Dear 10th Graders and Families,

Sophomore Inspire week (SIW) is just around the corner - in fact it is NEXT WEEK! As reminder, SIW is the cornerstone 10th grade postsecondary preparation, career exploration, and work-based learning project for the 10th grade.

Monday & Tuesday of next week student will attend school at AHS as usual and will follow our normal school day schedule.

We will be conducting workshops during core time on the following:

  • Engage in Career Exploration using the Colorado Career Advising Tool, using the Indigo pathways survey as a starting point for introspection and self-reflection on interests, aptitudes, and a variety of other career path indicators.
  • Participate in workshops about meaningful and fulfilling work - what does this mean and what are some examples of people doing this? (Hint - we usually have the chance to observe this in the professionals we work with in real life at our service group sites!)
  • Create an individual academic plan for next year and beyond that aligns with each student's postsecondary goals as well as provides for further exploration of their interests and aptitudes.

Wednesday-Friday all students will be off campus for their service projects...more on this below.

Ultimately, we want students to identify their interests, aptitudes, and individual strengths and help them understand how to use that knowledge to guide themselves toward pathways that will lead to meaningful and fulfilling education and career choices after high school!

It is very important that students attend school during SIW. The workshops that we will be doing during core time will satisfy required pieces of students' ICAP portfolios. Submission of a completed ICAP portfolio will likely be a graduation requirement for the Class of 2027. Attendance will be taken the entire week, and absences will count towards the AHS attendance policy.

Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday: Service project groups

All students will participate in an industry-sponsored service project alongside a small group of their peers and an adult staff member from AHS. This activity aligns with the 'learning through work' section of the Colorado Work Based learning continuum (below)

Students have been assigned a service project group and those groups were communicated out to students on Monday. Click HERE to find out which group you/your student is in.

You can expect communication home from your student's SIW adult group leader by Friday afternoon. This email will contain information about any additional permission slips or paperwork that might be required, logistics for W/Th/F of next week, as well as any other special considerations.

Feel free to reach out to either Elliot or Erin CR in the meantime with any questions.
