Trinity Episcopal Church – Facility Upgrade Project FAQ’s, 6/7/22


A. PROJECT DEFINITION


1) What is the Facility Upgrade Project? Why are we remodeling the Trinity kitchen? The campus and, in particular, the kitchen is essentially still in its 1960 condition. While this is good from the point of view that the original design remains functional and maintains its design integrity, numerous aspects do not meet current standards. For example, the kitchen is not in

accordance with current Sonoma County Health Dept. Requirements for commercial kitchens.


The kitchen is essential for a variety of Trinity functions and is used five days/week to prepare meals for members of the community, amounting to 136 meals/day. This is done by volunteers with formerly-named Meals on Wheels, now Sonoma Home Meals, and is a critical community service that helps those who are homebound. Additionally, the facilities do not meet

Americans with Disability Act 1990 (ADA) standards.


During recent Sonoma County Health Department inspections, the kitchen did not pass. However, Fr. Jim was able to persuade the officials to pass the kitchen “one more time.” This year, the inspector said this is absolutely the last time they will do so. If it is not certified by the County Health Inspector, the kitchen will be closed to all users. PLEASE READ MORE...

Big THANK YOUS to all who helped to make

the Bishop's visit such a wonderful day!

From grooming and prepping the campus and buildings, work in the Memorial Garden, serving at the Eucharist, bringing goodies to coffee hour, organizing the Vestry luncheon, and cleaning up afterward - all the hard work that went into the very special day!


We definitely put our best Trinity foot forward for the Bishop, and I think she appreciated our efforts and our ongoing ministries.

Killings at St. Stephens, in Alabama

Dear friends in Christ:

By now you are aware that last night a shooter entered St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, killing two children of God and injuring a third.


Even as I write, I am on the way to the commemoration of the nine who were martyred in 2015 at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina. The plague of gun violence in the United States affects us all, and now it has affected a congregation in The Episcopal Church.

 

We join together in prayer with Bishop Glenda Curry, Bishop Brian Prior, the clergy and people of St. Stephen’s, and the whole Episcopal Diocese of Alabama. I want to encourage us as a church to offer special prayers this Sunday for those affected by the shooting at St. Stephen’s—and for all victims of gun violence.

 

I commend to you the website of Bishops United Against Gun Violence, which has prayers, liturgical resources, and many other kinds of information.

 

As the prophet Isaiah wrote (41:10):

 

Do not fear, for I am with you,

do not be afraid, for I am your God;

I will strengthen you, I will help you,

I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.

 

I invite you to join me in prayer:

 

Eternal God of love, we know that you do not willingly inflict pain upon or grieve your children, and your dream for all is life abundant.

 

We come to you now in sorrow and sadness at the death and violence inflicted on our siblings of St. Stephen’s Church in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. Receive the souls of those who have died. Grant them peace in your arms of love. Be with those who are injured and suffer, those who are grieving, and those who are frightened and dispirited. Help us as a nation to find ways to bring an end to this scourge of violence, which hurts your children and our human family. Give us the strength we need, the courage we must have, and the faith in you that will see us through. All this we pray and ask in the name of the prince of peace—your son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Epidemic of Gun Violence and

Loving Our Neighbors

Our country is experiencing an epidemic of gun violence. It is on the front pages of our newspapers and on TV and online breaking news. Again and again, we learn about mass shootings taking innocent lives. All ages, including children Any location, including churches. In small towns and large cities.  Many times, from the use of automatic weapons.


In the midst of this epidemic of gun violence, we are called to love our neighbors. How do we answer that call?

Are you looking for ways to gain a better understanding of Native Communities?

Trinity Cathedral in Sacramento and Church of the Incarnation in Santa Rosa are working with the Redbud Resource Group to help them develop cultural knowledge and competency about the Native community. This is a basic step for developing meaningful relationships with these communities and going beyond land acknowledgements.


Redbud Resource Group is offering a masterclass this week to help individuals in their efforts to gain understanding of Native culture. I highly recommend this training. If you and your church are interested in gaining this knowledge, please consider registering for this course. Or if you know of another church or individual that is interested in gaining this knowledge, please pass-on the information.


Learning more about the Native culture increases our capacity to love our Native brothers and sisters.

At 3:45 the morning of June 22nd, Linda gracefully departed her gorgeous but worn-out body and has gone home to be with the Lord forevermore. She’s been ready to go for the past several days. We are at peace.


When peace like a river attendeth my way

When sorrows like sea billows roll

Whatever my lot,

Linda's memorial service will be held in the leafy courtyard of Trinity Episcopal Church, 275 East Spain Street, Sonoma, at 11:00 in the morning. A catered reception will follow. Please know how much I would appreciate your presence.


Thank you for your faithfulness in thought and prayer. Linda will be in our hearts always. Always.


God of mercy, look with love on Linda,

and receive her into your heavenly kingdom.

Bless her and let her live with you forever.

We ask this grace through Jesus Christ our Lord.
