Esteemed colleagues in the dharma,

As you know, some of the immediate work of the Board and Denominational Council is to review the various formational documents so carefully crafted within the ASZB, revise as necessary, and ultimately ratify them from within Soto Zen NA. We recently completed this process around the bylaws; now we turn our attention to regulations (of various kinds) and to ethics. This is important work that cannot be rushed. And, at the same time, it's urgent work—these documents are our internal agreements, so having them in place allows us to find our place in the denomination, and the denomination's place in the broader Soto Zen world.

To that end, the newly-formed Ethics Committee is asking that we all take a survey reviewing the ethics policy approved by ASZB members in 2018. Any feedback received will be taken into account in a revision process before a policy is formally adopted. Having completed that step, the committee will be positioned to work on a grievance policy and other documents relevant to a grievance process.

The survey may take some time to complete, but if you keep it open, you can do a section at a time, at your own pace. Please submit completed surveys by March 15.

On behalf of the committee, deep thanks to you all. This piece of the puzzle matters so much, as do your voices in the process.
