Armed Forces Day Saturday, May 15th In recognition of Armed Forces Day, Robert H. Burns American Legion Post #16 will be hosting a free breakfast of pancakes and bacon. Active duty personnel, veterans and their families are invited to attend the event at 2031 Ronald Reagan Highway, Covington.  The Auxiliary will be serving breakfast from 9 am until 11 am.

This occasion should provide an excellent opportunity to meet our uniformed heroes serving in five branches of the U.S. Military. Please bring your family to celebrate with the men and women who currently serve in the armed forces of the United States. The 703rd Light Maintenance Company, Reenacted also plans to have a couple of WWII era vehicles there. So that's cool.

Hello, "Swap Shop"

"Rick, I have some fresh yard eggs for sale and two used tires. One of the tires is in pretty good shape. I'll take $10 for the good one and $5 for the other one ... 892-7989."

The radio station WARB, home of Swap Shop, was located just past Covington High School on Hwy 190. It's being replaced with a new Swap Shop of sorts:

The ARB in WARB stands for Alfred Rhody Blossman. The Blossmans have been important to the Covington business community throughout the 19th, 20th and now 21st century. Judge Alfred Rhody (1837 - 1921) is buried in Covington Cemetery #1 along with Dorothy Ellis "Blossman" Holland (1903 - 1991). Today, many of us know Alfred R. Blossman III as "Trey" ... a former DJ at WARB who is always reluctant to share his views ; )
