Hi! I'm Anne Marie, the creator of KaleidoSoul.com, and a SoulCollage® Facilitator in Massachusetts and worldwide online.
|
I was thirteen years old on July 20, 1969 when the first human being, Neil Armstrong, walked on the moon. I remember it so clearly. My first job as a mother’s helper to our neighbors and their three children landed me on Cape Cod that month and I watched it with their family on a small old-fashioned television screen in the quaint, sandy cottage where we were staying. My big brother John, 19, was also with us (although I can’t remember why) and I remember the thrill of sharing that big moment with him as well as our neighbors.
I suspect that if you were anywhere near
a television on that day, you remember exactly
where you were and who you were with also.
|
In preparation for this column, I took some time to wander through my SoulCollage® deck and delightfully discovered that I have FIFTEEN cards with moon images on them! I chose this one because of how wondrous it was, how amazing, to watch those two astronauts actually walk on the moon. What had once been only a beautiful light in the sky was now accessible and attainable.
Years later, in my twenties, I was teaching second grade in Virginia and one of my former college professors contacted me. He was touring elementary schools with a display of actual moon rocks that the astronauts had brought back with them, and I was more than happy to invite him to share the rocks with our students. That was another wondrous moment (for me as well as the children)—to actually touch a piece of the moon instead of gazing at it from afar.
For me, the wonder of it all is twofold. First, the scientific fact that human beings have figured out how to catapult themselves to the moon and stand on its rocky ground. Also, the metaphorical story of how something that seemed so unattainable is now something that we take for granted.
I look at my own life and I see some similar patterns. In my childhood, I thought that publishing a book was an unattainable goal, only for others. But now I’ve published several! I never imagined that I could own and operate a successful business that would bring me joy and make a difference in others’ lives, but here I am, and KaleidoSoul is living proof of that. Swim with dolphins? Hug a sea lion? See an iceberg up close? Sing along with Josh Groban on a Broadway stage? These might seem like small things compared with humans walking on the moon, but they weren’t small to me. They were mighty big and I was flooded with wonder when each of them actually happened.
Several people are attributed to this often-used quote, “Reach for the moon. The worst that will happen is that you’ll fall among the stars.” What about you? What seemingly unattainable dreams have you managed to make come true in your own life? How have you reached for the metaphorical moon in the past? How are you reaching for it now? Incorporate these ideas into your own deck in some way to always remind you that what seems impossible might just be attainable if you set your mind and heart to it.

La Luna: Guide and Witness
|
She is always there…the Moon. La Luna. She is both guide and witness, a beacon in the night sky and in our lives. Humans throughout millennia have sought her council, looking to the sky for guidance, perspective, and insight. She is a Doorway that invites us to see what is hidden, and invites us into the mysteries of life itself.
The Moon is reflective. No matter the phase, whether she is seen or hidden, we can find and follow the energy of the moon in any moment. She is a Muse . . . showing us our own cycles and phases as she reflects the journey of life while crossing the night sky.
Many of us are drawn to the moon. La Luna is a witness to the cycles and seasons of our life. We see her light and experience the changing nature of ourselves reflected in her phases.
She is a mirror offering us sacred space to discover our own reflective light.
My own lunar experiences became more pronounced at a difficult time in my life, when I was in transition and feet a deep need to be seen. I was unraveling from various roles and responsibilities, so I turned to the night sky, needing its soft darkness to wrap me in its arms.
The moon was a sentinel and companion. I sought her wisdom and felt the potent way she always saw and witnessed me. I allowed her to soften my disappointment and self-criticism; I allowed her to want more for me than I wanted for myself. She brought me into connection with what I needed most at that time, and she has traveled with me as a constant, conscious companion ever since.
I continue to see La Luna and feel her presence as my Mama Muse, a mythic or archetypal guide . . . not just a celestial orb hovering in the night sky.
|
She is the Mistress of the Sea, the One who rules the tides, gifting us with the rhythmic ebb and flow of activity and energy. This too is a gift that is reflected in the energies of the Moon and mirrored within our bodies as the ebb and flow of our own breath or the coursing of blood through our veins.
As if you were on fire from within
The moon lives in the lining of your skin.
~ Pablo Neruda
The Moon offers connection to the inner world and yet she dwells in the outer world. La Luna orbits each Soul's Journey and is known within our skin and outside of our eyes.
The moon also inspires connection to the ancient world. Mythic remembering resonates within the aura of the moon and we can discover so much by working with moon energies as a form of remembering and rising into our light. We can explore our personal current connections and stories by creating with the mysteries of the moon.
Be held by the Night…and Blessed by Her Light!
Creative Prompts:
What is stirring? What is rising? What is coming forth?
What does it mean to you, to gaze at the moon?
How do you recognize yourself when looking at the night sky? How do you hold La Luna’s light within you?
Create a SoulCollage® card that honors La Luna and/or your relationship with Her.
