A friend of mine once told me a story about how her brother-in-law disappeared for four days and no one knew where he was. Originally from North Carolina, he had traveled to Virginia Beach on business and went for a walk at midnight. Someone mugged him, and he ended up with a concussion and amnesia for two whole days. When he “came to,” he was in New York City.
Talk about scary. Can you imagine? But here's where the story gets really interesting.
This man is Jewish and deeply religious. Prayer is a habitual part of his daily routine; religious rituals are part and parcel of the very fabric of his life. When he was in New York City, still not knowing who he was or where he was from, he did remember that he was Jewish. And even though he couldn’t remember his name, he did remember the exact words of each and every one of his daily prayers.
My heart beat faster when my friend told me this part of the story. His relationship with the Divine / Source went far deeper than his mind and his memory could allow. Even though he didn't know what he did for a living or who his family was, he did know that he was Jewish, and that God was a very real part of his life.
Eventually, the amnesia lifted, his memory returned, and he was joyfully reunited with his family. But this story remains with me today as a bright lesson of my own deep and personal connection to Source, which I choose to call Spirit. When I think of what happened to my friend's brother-in-law, it reminds me of how I am known by Source/Spirit—deeply, unconditionally, beyond mind and memory.
Time for Reflection
Do you have a Source card yet to represent The One who holds all the many parts of your being? If not, seek out images to create one.
If you do have a Source card, set it out this week where you will see it every day. Whenever you walk past it, pause and make a gesture of love towards yourself and towards this representation of Spirit energy. You might hold your hand over your heart; you might make a small bow. Do whatever feels right to you.
Spend some time in solitude and stillness this week. Allow yourself to feel and to know that your connection with The One is such that it can never, ever be broken.
The Source, in an instant, ties all the various shadowy and light threads into one amazing tapestry that helps me remember my heart is always whole- even in its broken moments. ~ Alia Moore, SoulCollage® Facilitator North Carolina

Exploring Source & Symbolism
|
When I think of the word Source. I imagine my spirit and soul immediately moving up and out into the night sky. I shift my body, as consciousness meets me, and I feel myself swimming into the deep sea that slowly becomes one with the cosmos.
The traveler is present to me as She who moves from the depths of the ocean into the heights of the cosmic sky. It is the mermaid representing “She, Me, We” each of us who travels this path of seeking and finding. She with her own Source inside, a spiral galaxy held within the center of her body.
This imagery and energy we individually choose to reflect Source is unique and vital to each person’s journey of discovering their own knowledge of Source, or life-force energy. As you move into relationship with places, spaces, and people that offer Source material—through ideas and information—your inner Source will elicit wisdom and discernment that will affirm connection and alignment.
Source is a vast and divine concept of inception, origin, birthplace, root, fount and wellspring. It is the beginning and continuum, the initiator and the creative rising.
Source is a point of genesis, and often represents new beginning.
As we step into a new year there is a sense of potential—a birthing, a genesis that may not have a clear shape or form. What does the Source of this new beginning look like to you? How could you create a SoulCollage® card that holds the essence of an unseen Source, and welcome whatever is waiting to be birthed in your life? What might need to be released in order to make space for this new source?
There is no doubt that this passing year has brought tremendous challenge for most of us. Covid-Time descended early in 2020 like a blanket of confusion, bringing a fog of fear. Many of us recognized where Source was crashing into force, as external happenings and circumstances brought grief and despair, as well as deep awareness and awakening. Change became palpable and necessary. While some felt their Source was slipping away, leaving them feeling bereft and alone, for others Source was altering its shape and taking on new properties, principles. and potential.
Source is the cause or happening that creates something new.
|
It is vital to represent the full range of experience and all forms of Source within your SoulCollage® and any other forms of art as process, and there is no doubt many of us met unexpected Source material in this last year. The good, the bad and the ugly has always been my own mantra of recognition and willingness to seek and find, dive deep, and meet the truth.
How has the passing year altered your understanding of Source?
Source through symbolic form becomes a rich path of discovery and also provides solace when needed. This often happens, for me, in the midst of a single moment, and I will find myself tapping into the imagery of a sacred glen, where the water flows through a circle of stone into a sea of stars. This is the space where I can swim into the flow and find what I need. There are also powerful Source materials held in the essence of archetypal energies. Consider how archetypal energies as “material of life” can transform your own inner awareness.
I am also aware that I am writing this article under the last Full Moon of 2020, so I am thinking about and honoring the many ways we seek and find Source through the natural world. Utilizing our sensory awareness and intuition invites us to touch into Mystery, which becomes a powerful Source for many of us.
Seek your own imagery and energy as you explore these creative prompts:
- Determine the shape of the Source that lives within you.
- Create the symbolism that represents this Source.
- Seek the space of YOU in this new year…and feel yourself holding a new seed inside as you step into 2021

SoulCollage® Facilitators
Patricia Selmo & Char Tarashanti
The planets have been recognized as powerful archetypes in our lives and in the world for thousands of years. Each of them provides us with information regarding life themes such as love, integrity, destruction, creation, communication and identity. We will develop self-awareness through this exploration of the traditional planets – Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Explore the essence and energy that each of these archetypes offer– through conversation, ritual, journaling, meditation and other modalities. Each week you will have the opportunity to create a SoulCollage© card for that particular planetary archetype. Send questions directly to Patricia.
