Chapter President's Message

Spring has sprung everywhere and we have enjoyed those little showers to remind us that Mother Nature helps our plants grow.

If April showers bring May flowers, what do may flowers bring? (Answer below)

We changed our clocks, paid homage to St. Patrick, honored our Vietnam Vets and have begun the summer planning.

Proud ARMY Mom

Santa Cruz

We supported our Santa Cruz moms as they welcomed 10 Veterans from around the country to participate in Operation Surf. This program helps Veterans while pairing them with Alumni of this program and a professional

surfer to learn this skill and participate in the group activities. It was a beautiful day at the beach, the motorcade was impressive and the sand art was something to behold. Another wonderful program to help our Veterans.

National Vietnam Veterans Day - March 30th

We honored our Vietnam Heroes and the local fallen heroes of the Vietnam War whose names appear on this wall in downtown San Jose.

HAPPY 100th Birthday - Audrey Schenck

After graduating from nursing college is St. Louis, she joined the Navy and served as a surgical nurse from 1953-1955. Audrey Schenck was a US Navy Nurse in the Korean War and served for 25 years. She was surrounded by her eight children and many grandchildren and a few great-grandchildren to celebrate. She was a Blue Star Mom for one son who served in the Air Force and her grandson who served in the Marines. Happy Birthday Audrey, and many more blessings to you and your family.

Gilroy Elks Donation

Thanks to the Gilroy Elks for their generous donation of $1,000 to help us with our Mission and being a great community partner.

Spring Planting Season

Time to get those plants in the ground. It's a great time for tomatoes, herbs, zucchini, eggplant, peppers, and cucumbers. Some of the local Starbuck's are giving out flower seeds to bring some color into our gardens. Don't forget to save those eggshells and coffee grounds to add to your garden composting. Include the paper coffee filters as they are also useful. Don't forget the bees. Bees play an essential role in pollination, allowing plants to produce fruit and seeds.

If April showers bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring?
Answer: Pilgrims, of course.
(Thank you to my 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Van Buren for that lifelong memory).

Memorial Day at Oak Hill - May 25th at 11am

Please join us on Monday, May 25th at Oak Hill. We will be carrying the Gold Star/Blue Star Mothers wreath in the opening ceremony. We will also have a table to show what we do and to have fun things for the kids to do. There will be military vehicles on display from several wars and a car show as well.
