Military Flags

Dear SBBSM, Associates, and Community,

Celebrations in July reminded us that we are grateful to this Nation for our freedoms by celebrating America's 250th Anniversary and honoring our Veterans. Thank you to our community partners, friends and families for their support as well as donations to help in our mission.

Community Day at the AL #419

Thanks to Kathleen Hall and her team that put this event together. WE met with Veterans and their families and learned about the programs that are out there for Veterans that are coming home after serving in the military. WE hope to do this again next year and get a bigger turnout. Thanks to the #419 for lunch.

Celebration of Life - Barry Driscoll

Thank to Joan Schenck (our Chaplain) for presiding over this event. Joan spoke of Barry's military time in Vietnam as well as his career in the California Highway Patrol. The family was grateful for this recognition. Job well done Joan.

Summer Care Packages

We are still working on sending out boxes before the end of Summer.

With the help of our Community Partners, we have Girl Scout Cookies and many other items to include in our boxes.

Storage Needs

We are still looking for space to store our items at a reduced rate from our current storage locker. If you know anyone that has office space or warehouse space, please contact Donna Zolezzi at bluestarmomssb@yahoo.com.

Where in the heck are you?

Let us know when you have traveled and we will include some pics in our next newsletter.

Thanks to Kathleen Romano for sharing her trip to San Diego last month for Comic Con and visiting the USS Midway!

San Jose Italian Family Festa

Great day, great weather and the Son's of Sicily outdid themselves with the food this year. Everything we tried was top notch, Sausage Sandwiches, ravioli and meatballs. The longest line was for pizza at the Tony & Alba's booth of course, and the Cannoli's were too good to pass up.

Pictures of times past

We celebrate parades, playhouses, the Honor Flight, Christmas in the Park and welcoming our new members and officers. We see these smiles and friendly faces remembered from not so long ago.

Sean's K9 Luau Fundraiser

Thanks to all who came out to support Cheryl Walsh and her team to help raise funds to provide dogs for the local law enforcement agencies. Many were represented there and gave demonstrations on how the dogs are trained. It wouldn't be a luau without Hawaiian music, dances and food.

August General Meeting in Person

Wednesday Aug 19th

The August General Meeting will be in person. It is our annual election of our Executive Board.

The time/place will be announced shortly.

We hope to see you there.

Summer Recipe: Easy Peach Ice Cream

1-1/2 cups chopped peaches

2 cups whipping cream (heavy cream)

1 cup whole milk

3/4 cup sugar

1 Tbl lemon juice

Pinch of Salt

Wash, peel and cut peaches.

Add to blender with lemon juice until smooth.

Add whole milk to the puree and blend again until well mixed.

Transfer to a large bowl and set aside.

In a separate bowl, pour in the whipping cream, sugar and salt.

Whip until peaks form. Easier if cream is very cold. Fold in 1/2 of the whipped cream into the peach blend.

Add the remaining cream and fold in gently. This will make it creamy and light. Transfer into a pan or container to freeze.

After 30 minutes, take out the pan and stir every 30 minutes for the next 2 hours. It helps to keep the ice cream creamy and light.

If you have chunks in your ice cream, it will keep them from settling on the bottom. Enjoy!
