Update from John Koch, Executive Director

Dear Friends,
I’m excited to introduce that the theme of Trinity Center’s 2022 Annual Appeal is “Come and See.” Taken from John 1:39, this biblical passage tells the story of the calling of John and Andrew, the first disciples:
The next day John again was standing with two of his disciples, and as he watched Jesus walk by, he exclaimed, ‘Look, here is the Lamb of God!’ The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. When Jesus turned and saw them following, he said to them, ‘What are you looking for?’ They said to him, ‘Rabbi’ (which translated means Teacher), ‘where are you staying?’ He said to them, ‘Come and see.’ They came and saw where he was staying, and they remained with him that day. (John 1:35-39)
John and Andrew were curious about Jesus and wanted to know more about him. Jesus, instead of being too busy for John and Andrew, immediately made time, inviting them to "Come and See." And not just a small amount of time: Verse 39 says that Jesus stayed with them ‘that day.’ For those who were seeking Jesus, He always had the time and the interest to speak to those that really wanted to be with Him. What a wonderful example of radical hospitality!
This passage spoke to me in a number of ways as I considered the parallels to Trinity Center. First, Trinity Center provides a physical setting to be with the Divine, extending an open invitation to all who seek to spend as much time as they like… a day, a weekend, or even a week. Second, to those same individuals, we provide radical hospitality, offering rest and nourishment under the protection of our beautiful canopy. Finally, we provide an opportunity to focus on discernment – John and Andrew pursued Jesus and discovered their calling as disciples. Who knows what spending reflective time at Trinity Center could lead to? What life-changing, world-changing, or kingdom-changing moments await?
In my short tenure at Trinity, I’ve found Trinity Center to be an extraordinarily expansive ministry. One that touches people from all walks of life, one that makes a difference in an increasingly complicated and struggling world. We have been blessed with so much, we want to share in our bounty and are inviting all to “Come and See.”
Please partner with the camp and conference center in supporting the programs and people who make a difference; make a generous gift to the 2022 Trinity Center Annual Appeal: “Come and See.” You can make an online gift now by utilizing this link. The formal Annual Appeal letter will be coming out in November.
All the best,
John Koch, Executive Director

I am excited about my time here and can’t wait to see what the future will hold. Part of my experience at Trinity will be to "Come and See" as many churches and diocesan institutions as possible to introduce myself and reintroduce Trinity Center to the diocese. If you would like to schedule a visit, you may contact me at: trinityctrexecutivedirector@gmail.com or call 252-247-5600.

Updates at Trinity Center
|
|
Recently Trinity Center sold a piece of ocean front property to a local family who intend to build a single family home. The purchase price was $4.1 million. Proceeds will allow Trinity to pay off pandemic debt, establish a facilities Trust Fund and repair and paint the exteriors of all our buildings. Plan a visit to "Come and See" all that is happening.

We are thrilled to share with you all that we recently completed the process of refreshing our logos for Trinity Center with the help of our Board and a designer! This refreshed dolphin logo was created with much thought and intention, so that we could maintain the dignity of the dolphins that we all love so much.
|
|
Our earlier version of the dolphins logo came out of a contest in the 1980s where people around the diocese submitted their ideas for Trinity Center's logo. The dolphins logo was selected, and we are so happy to carry on the tradition of the dolphins with this refresh. We'd love to know your memories of the dolphins! Camp Trinity has had another wonderful and fun-filled summer! On July 18, 2022, Camp Trinity was visited by the American Camping Association (ACA) for its Standards Visit (scheduled once every five years). Developed exclusively for the camp industry, this nationally recognized program focuses on program quality and health and safety issues and requires us to review every facet of our operation. We are thrilled to report that Camp Trinity did amazing in all areas!
We will be opening Summer 2023 registration in early November. All applications, forms, and brochure will be available for download on our website. We are also happy to mail forms to anyone who requests them. Campers from last summer will automatically receive them in the mail.
We are also excited to announce that the Camp Trinity Winter Retreat will be back this January! This is a youth event for grades 8-12 and will be held January 13-15, 2023. What if you’ve never attended Camp Trinity before? That’s completely okay too – this can be a wonderful way to welcome you to Camp Trinity! Forms and more information will be available in November. We are thrilled to have this event back on the calendar.
More than ever, I continue to be overwhelmed by the blessings of Camp Trinity, and I am thankful for the opportunity to serve the diocese by being a part of this wonderful place. To all who helped camp along its way this past summer, you have my deepest gratitude. To the summer staff of 2022 goes a special thank you; I will never forget your dedication, love, and hard work.

Updates from Sound to Sea's Director, Mindy Furrer
|
|
In August of 2023, Trinity Center will invite former Sound to Sea Educators and their families back to our hallowed grounds not to work, but to learn and play. We will celebrate Sound to Sea turning 30 this year in Sound to Sea style: current Sound to Sea staff will conduct classes on the Sound, Forest, and Pond as well as put on our evening programs like Beach Walk Turtle Talk, Whales and Whalers, and, of course, Outer Banks Songs and Stories by the campfire.
Sound to Sea has been offering environmental education programs to students from NC and beyond since 1992.
In that time, we have had the privilege of welcoming over 245 Instructors to live and work here at Trinity Center. Sound to Sea’s mission statement reads, “The Sound to Sea Environmental Education Program at Trinity Center is committed to using hand on activities to meet each group’s educational needs and to increase awareness of communities. We increase awareness of ecological communities by utilizing the habitats on property, and human communities by promoting positive group dynamics.”
The Sound to Sea staff models how to live in community every day that they are here. During the school year, our staff routinely work form 8 in the morning until 9 at night. They have to work as a team to teach and care for up to 96 students at a time. After spending all of this time together during long work hours they can often be found hanging out around a campfire, camping, hiking, or just cooking together and hanging out during their down time.
In 2017 we hosted the 25th anniversary reunion. Each staff member is given the opportunity to add to the program while they teach here. It was so fun to watch the staff from the ’90s step into our life-sized inflatable whale as well as experience the old standbys like fishing in the sound with their own children.
We are looking forward to sharing some of our new programs, such as learning about icky creatures with our soon-to-be education opossum!
