Saint Joe Boasts Four National Merit Semi Finalists
|
On September 12th the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced their Semifinalists, among them four Saint Joseph High School seniors.
Tomas Aguilar-Fraga, Peter Amat, Nicholas Andrysiak, and Margaret Barrett (pictured left to right) stood out among over 1.6 million entrants due to their academic records, recommendations, essays, and test scores. Semifinalists represent less than one percent of high school seniors and have the opportunity to become Finalists eligible for the National Merit Scholarships pool offering over $31 million in scholarships this spring. Congratulations and good luck!

Welcome back to another incredible year at Saint Joseph High School!
With the advent of the new student-led service club, Aidan’s Masterpiece, our community is endeavoring to achieve far greater service projects and initiatives than ever before. The list of pre-approved service sites is posted on the SJHS
Canvas
“Christian Service” website, along with the full description of the Christian Service Curriculum. While Christian Service Hour Sheets are currently on the site, we will soon transition to a digital program – details of which will be shared in a future edition of Soundings.
Please be aware that the first set of five Christian Service hours will be due and collected during Flex Period on Tuesday, October 3rd.
Upcoming service opportunities are announced and posted on
Canvas
and our weekly public broadcasting systems; however, students are encouraged to scan the list of over 90 pre-approved service sites to reach out and schedule their hours at the service location of their choice at any time.
If you have any questions, please email
Kathy Kershner
, Christian Service Coordinator.

Aidan loved working with children and brought joy to all his endeavors. Aidan's Masterpiece encourages others to take up his mission of service and making the world a better place.

Students and Faculty Receive Community Award Recognition from SJHS
Prior to September 14th's All-School Mass, Ellie Kostielney-Hurley, Mitchell Coleman, and Mrs. Kristie Alter graciously accepted female, male, and faculty/staff Community Awards from Principal John Kennedy following nominations from their peers.
Ellie, the Senior Class President, is active with the National Honors Society, Tennis, GREIA tutoring, peer mentoring, and Right to Life. She is on the Saint Joe Retreat Team and CORE Team for the Christ the King Youth Group, where she performed two week-long mission trips this past summer teaching bible study.
Mitchell is a four-year member of the baseball team who serves as a leader in Aidan’s Masterpiece. He is involved with student ambassadors and peer mentoring, while also performing service work for Catholic Charities and serving on the Saint Joe Catholic Identity Committee.
A devoted mother of two, Mrs. Kristie Alter exhibits her passion for learning and teaching daily in her classroom through her dedication to her students. She is a member of the Social Studies Department, leader of the Freshman Summer Skills Camp, and Freshman Class Moderator.
Congratulations and thank you all so much for your service to both Saint Joe and the community!
