What does it take to run an ad in The Bachelor?
|
Do you ever wonder how much it costs to run an ad in your favorite show? The cost to air a 30-second commercial in TV’s biggest primetime shows has remained relatively stable. The NFL leads the pack holding the two priciest spots. Reality series fill six of the top 10 shows, up from five in the 2020-21 season. On the other hand, scripted series continues to move down the list, holding just two of the top 10 slots, down from three last year.
The price for commercial time in the NFL’s two biggest nights continues to increase. NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” saw a 4% uptick in its price to $811,679 on average for a 30-second commercial. And Fox’s “Thursday Night Football,” is going for $635,439, up 2% from last year.
Heading into its sixth and final season, NBC’s “This Is Us” comes in at No. 3, averaging $317,981. While this still makes it the most costly scripted show on TV, it’s down 33% from last season when it peaked at $476,352.
NBC’s “The Voice” remains TV’s most expensive reality show. A 30-second spot during its Monday episode is costing advertisers $244,932. The Tuesday night results show costs $225,361.
In 5th spot is Fox’s own singing competition series “The Masked Singer.” This 30-second ad is averaging $234,702, up 4% from last season.
Eighteen seasons later, but ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” keeps on kicking. It’s averaging $206,799 for a 30-second commercial.
Despite all of the controversy surrounding ABC’s “The Bachelor” franchise, “The Bachelorette” comes in at Number 8. This was one of the biggest gainers of the season, up 24% to $191,824.

Last week, Mark Zuckerberg announced the change of Facebook’s direction and name. Facebook is rebranding to ‘Meta’ and will focus on its online virtual realm where people would work, exercise, play, and shop.
While it might take years for the metaverse to reach its full potential, the name Facebook didn’t represent all the company does anymore. Facebook has already invested heavily in creating that new reality of shared online spaces inhabited by digital avatars, with projects ranging from virtual-reality glasses to an e-commerce platform.
At Facebook Connect, Zuckerberg introduced Facebook’s Horizon platform consisting of Horizon Home, Horizon Workrooms, Horizon Worlds, and Horizon Venues shows and performances.
In case you are wondering, the apps Facebook, Instagram and Whats App will not be changing their names.

Sounds great! But is this real?
|
As we all know, positive reviews help businesses rank better in search results and lead to more conversions. Like me, about 90% of consumers consult online reviews before making a decision. However, do you sometimes question if the review is legit?
Uberall and The Transparency Company analyzed 4 million store reviews on Google, Facebook, Yelp, and TripAdvisor using AI and natural-language processing to identify un-authored reviews across 19 local business categories. Here’s what they found:
Google, the top local business review site in the U.S., had the highest rate of fake reviews at 10.7%. Yelp came in second with 7.1% fake reviews, Tripadvisor with 5.2%, and Facebook with 4.9%.
In terms of categories, Locksmiths with 14.5% of fake reviews as the highest category, followed by moving companies at 13.7%, plumbers at 12.3%, digital marketing agencies at 11.4% and personal injury lawyers at 10.6%. On the other side of the spectrum, pharmacies have the lowest at 1.3%.
In terms of urban areas, the highest review fraud percentage is the Miami-Ft Lauderdale area, with 9.7%, followed by Tampa at 9%, Los Angeles at 8.8%, Phoenix at 8.1%, and Chicago at 7.9%. On the positive side, Boston was the city with the lowest fraud percentage, at 3.9% of all reviews.
Review fraud is illegal. CHEQ and the University of Baltimore found that about 4% of online reviews were fake. That means fake reviews can influence an estimated $152 billion in global spending in 2021.There needs to be some form of consistent enforcement through use of AI tools to slow the spread of review fraud.
How do you evaluate reviews and how much trust and faith do you place in them?

Army to 'Be all it can be.'
|
In 2019, the U.S. Army’s marketing division, Army Marketing and Research Group was dissolved and redesignated as the Office of the Chief Army Enterprise Marketing. Today, with the leadership of Major General Alex Fink, chief marketing officer of Army Enterprise Marketing, the U.S. Army has a more modern and effective marketing department.
In Chicago, the Army benefits from being at a marketing epicenter. The team is filled with new kinds of talents, ranging from data scientists to creatives and even gamers. Their most recent campaign, “The Calling,” targeted Gen Z with animated films recounting the varied and personal tales of officers’ paths to recruitment. The branded content push aimed to close the Army’s relatability gap with potential recruits.
Thus, the Army is moving into the 21st Century to spark new recruits.

Is this the only rating that matters?
|
Nielsen hasn’t really had the best year. Earlier, they lost their Media Rating Council accreditation and received a lot of bad press about its flaws and competitive threats.
Despite all of that, Nielsen appears to be doing well financially. Nielsen executives reported that third-quarter revenue beat forecasts and agency and media contract renewals are strong.
Nielsen reported quarterly revenue up 5.5% to $882 million. Audience measurement, the main area where Nielsen’s accreditation troubles would have an impact, rose 4.4%. Net income from continuing operations rose 18.2% to $117 million.
Furthermore, Nielsen One, which aims to provide a single deal currency across linear and all forms of streaming TV, is on track to be released this time next year.
Thus, Nielsen's uptick with financials may be the only rating that matters.

Get help from 'The Mouse'!
|
In my previous life, I worked for many media companies including the one headed by the Mouse. During my 20 year executive run with media companies, I had noticed that if an advertiser wasn't properly represented with a media expert helping them with their media planning and buying, then that company was at a disadvantage. Thus, I created a company to provide a solution to that problem.
Marketing Keys was formed in July, 2007 to more than level the negotiation playing field between advertisers and media companies. We enabled advertisers to have a major leg up in the process.
We targeted Presidents, CEOs, Regional Managers, Marketing Directors, CMOs etc. of small and mid-sized businesses. We then went to market with our 'key' differentiator and mission. During the last decade, the company has grown from 2 clients in 2010 to presently close to 20.
To find out if we can help build on the results that you had started and eliminate the inherent disadvantages of buying media on your own, please reach out to us at roger@marketingkeys.com.
