The Message this Week

Preaching Text: Luke 7:36-50

Receiving generosity! In a bit of a teaser last weekend, I talked about the importance of receiving generosity from Jesus first, before we try to give. This week’s lesson is an illustration of this truth. A sinful woman bathes Jesus’ feet with her tears. The Pharisee who is hosting Jesus at his home is shocked…sure that if Jesus knew who she was or what she was, He would have stopped her. Turns out, the Pharisee didn’t provide basic hospitality to Jesus. He is completely unaware of the gift of grace…Jesus…in his midst.

Good and gracious God, it is so easy to think we are doing this life thing all on our own. Help us to see that all we have and are is a gift of pure grace…poured into us through the life giving teaching, death and resurrection of Jesus. Then call us to live generously. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
