Get to Know Doguet Turf Farm!
Matt and Michelle (Doguet) Willey recently took the helm at Doguet Turf Farm, known for producing premium sod grass varieties grown at their farms in China and Nome.
Michelle, a practicing psychiatrist, and Matt, an owner of a precious metals company, also have a cattle farm in addition to joining the family business. To say they maintain a whirlwind of a schedule is an understatement!

The couple is eager and passionate to help educate the public about their turf varieties, and plan to expand their marketing efforts.

While a majority of customers are contractors, builders and lawn care professionals, they also sell directly to the public. In fact, you'll find their prices much more affordable when compared to the 'big box' home improvement stores.
Most consumers may not be aware that you can pick up any size order from single squares to pallets at their Diamond D Ranch office, located at 2055 Diamond D Drive off Highway 90. All of their grasses are available as sod, not seed. They harvest 450 sq ft pallets in 16″x24″ blocks and offer 225 sq ft big rolls.

Delivery is available, and they have customers all over Texas and Louisiana. Here's new grass being delivered to the beach!
Typically buyers are looking for St. Augustine grass, known for it's medium to dark green color, and suitable for our Southeast Texas climate. They grow that, as well as about numerous other varieties, including ones with patents. One notable turf is JaMur Zoysia, a pretty blue-green color grass that once established, chokes out weeds and produces roots nearly 2' deep. JaMur needs less water and less fertilizer than other standard lawn grasses, and can even tolerate some salt, making it perfect for coastal locations.
"In areas with erosion problems, sod works as a blanket to help hold soil in place. Our Jamur Zoysia has an extensive root system which allows for quick recovery from damage or water. Our customer in Toledo Bend sent us these photos of damage after hurricane Laura. His lawn is fully sodded with Jamur, and his nextdoor neighbor’s lawn is not."
Check out the root system for the Jamur Zoysia grass from the previous photo that held up in Hurricane Laura.
