As we approach the winter break, I encourage you to take this time to rest, recharge, and reconnect with family and friends. The holiday season is a perfect opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of the past year and set intentions for the exciting opportunities ahead.
Looking forward, 2025 promises to be a year of growth and innovation for ECEDHA. I am thrilled to invite you to the ECEDHA Annual Conference and ECExpo, which will take place in Norfolk, Virginia, from March 20-24, 2025. This flagship event will bring together leaders from academia, industry, and government to explore cutting-edge developments in electrical and computer engineering. It’s an unparalleled opportunity to exchange ideas, build partnerships, and shape the future of our field. Mark your calendars—this is an event you wont want to miss!
On behalf of the ECEDHA team, I want to thank you for your contributions to our vibrant community. Your commitment to excellence and innovation drives our success. I wish you a joyful holiday season and a prosperous start to the new year. I look forward to seeing many of you in Norfolk this spring!

U of A Engineers Tackle Energy Usage in Semiconductor Technology
By: Katy Smith

The National Science Foundation – as part of its Future of Semiconductors, or FuSe2, program – recently awarded $3.8 million for two projects involving University of Arizona engineers developing solutions for the semiconductor energy dilemma.
Energy use in technology with semiconductors – from data centers, computers and smartphones to solar cells, electric vehicles and medical equipment – has doubled every three years since 2010, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. And these products could consume nearly 20% of the world's energy by 2030.

Educating People-First Engineers: A Q&A with Cindy Finelli and Erin Cech By: Patricia DeLacey

Preparing the next generation of engineers to consider public welfare when developing new technologies.
Medical and law students bookend their education with an oath—accepting the privileges and responsibilities of the profession—and rigorous board exams.
| |
| |
Engineers who choose to join the National Society of Professional Engineers recite the Engineers’ Creed, pledging to work towards the “advancement and betterment of public health, safety and welfare.” However, there is no universally accepted code of ethics for practicing engineers and no widespread way to hold engineers in the workforce accountable if they act unethically. Yet engineers carry a tremendous professional responsibility—developing technology that impacts society at large in communication, transportation, energy, healthcare and more.

“My journey in engineering began in the Philippines, where I was pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering at Mapúa University. However, life took an unexpected turn when my family immigrated to the United States, leading me to pause my studies and start over. Now, I am a student at Tallahassee State College, I am working toward an Associate of Arts in Computer Engineering with plans to transfer to the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering in 2025 or 2026 to complete my Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering."
