As the academic year comes to a close, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued engagement and support. Your dedication to your departments and the ECE community has made this year one of meaningful progress and collaboration.


In this issue of the ECEDHA Source, we are pleased to spotlight several highlights from the conference, including a feature on AI Applications and Ethical Considerations, a spotlight on the Vision for ECE in a Rapidly Changing World, and a feature on IEEE President-elect, Mary Ellen Randall's keynote presentation.

We are also pleased to provide a report on our 2025 Annual Conference Listening Session and Summit Series Kick-off.


ECEDHA Summit Series programming will continue throughout the summer to address critical issues facing our ECEDHA academic members, ECEDHA corporate members, and the ECE community as a whole. Be sure to check your email for important updates on upcoming programs.

Insights from the ECEDHA 2025 Annual Conference

Artificial intelligence is no longer a future conceptit's here, reshaping how engineering departments educate students, how companies build products, and how institutions navigate ethical responsibilities. The 2025 ECEDHA Annual Conference featured a session titled "AI Applications and Ethical Considerations," offering faculty, administrators, and industry leaders a chance to explore the practical challenges and opportunities AI introduces ECE education.


The session brough together three leaders in the field:

Dennis Roberson's Vision for ECE in a Rapidly Changing World


Keynote Recap from the 2025 ECEDHA Annual Conference

At the 2025 ECEDHA Annual Conference, Dennis Roberson—President and CEO of Roberson and Associates and one of the most seasoned voices in wireless innovation—delivered a keynote that challenged and inspired electrical and computer engineering leaders to embrace their evolving role in society. With a career spanning executive leadership at IBM, Motorola, AT&T, and service as Vice Provost for Research and Professor at Illinois Institute of Technology, Roberson brought both breadth and depth to his discussion of the trends shaping the ECE discipline.

Opening his talk with a nod to the mission of the Marconi Society, where he now serves as Chair, Roberson invited ECE departments to actively connect their work with global efforts in telecommunications, education, and digital inclusion. He emphasized the important relationship between ECEDHA and the Marconi Society, urging participants to nominate promising PhD students for the Young Scholars program and to support a broader academic presence in the Marconi Society's initiatives.

IEEE Attends 2025 ECEDHA Annual Conference

IEEE is the world's largest technical professional association, with more than 480,000 members worldwide. Many IEEE members who serve their universities in leadership positions are also members of ECEDHA. IEEE Educational Activities supports a number of programs that provide opportunities to students to strengthen ECE programs.

Mary Ellen Randall, 2025 IEEE President-Elect, provided the keynote address on Friday, March 21, 2025. She is the founder and CEO of Ascot Technologies, Inc., an award-winning software company specializing in enterprise applications and mobile delivery technologies. With over two decades of leadership experience, Randall has held key volunteer roles within IEEE, including IEEE Treasurer, IEEE Vice President of Member and Geographic Activities (MGA), and Region 3 Director. She is the creator of the IEEE MOVE International Community Outreach Program, which provides disaster relief and STEM education, earning her the presigious IEEE Haraden Pratt Award for service.

2025 ECEDHA Annual Conference Listening Session & Summit Series Kick-Off Report


The 2025 ECEDHA Annual Conference Listening Session and ECEDHA Summit Series Kick-off have provided vital opportunities for the ECE community to come together, share insights, and discuss key challenges affecting higher education in the face of shifting federal regulations, political climates, and funding uncertainties.

Nominations are open for the Marconi Society's Paul Baran Young Scholar Award, which recognizes emerging leaders in information and communications technology for innovation, leadership, and societal impact.

Young Scholars receive:
