Dear ECEDHA Community,
I am excited to gather with all of you next week at the 2025 ECEDHA Annual Conference and ECExpo in Norfolk, Virginia. This conference remains a cornerstone of our community, providing a space for us to come together, share ideas, and collectively navigate the challenges and opportunities that define ECE today.
The 2024 ECEDHA Annual Awards will be highlighted, honoring two individuals with the Robert M. Janowiak Outstanding Leadership and Service Award and recognizing the ECEDHA Community Development Award recipient and four Joint-Industry Awardees. These individuals exemplify the dedication and innovation driving ECE forward.

|
We will also host the ECEDHA Listening Session, "Preparing for the Future of Higher Education," which will address key challenges for ECE departments, including changes in federal research funding and policies affecting academic language and support for international students. Through facilitated discussions, we will develop strategies to tackle these issues together.
Don't miss our Plenary Panel: "Navigating the Future: 6G and Its Role in Next-Generation Connectivity." This session will delve into the role of academia in shaping 6G technology, which is expected to redefine connectivity and impact industries like autonomous transportation and smart infrastructure.
Our unity is our strength in times of change. ECEDHA thrives on collaboration and mutual support. I encourage you to engage in discussions and connect with your colleagues while in Norfolk.
I look forward to seeing you all next week and to the meaningful conversations ahead.

Uniting for a Common Future
As the landscape of higher education faces new challenges under the current federal administration, ECEDHA is taking a proactive stance to ensure that our community remains resilient, innovative, and forward-thinking. With this vision in mind, we announce the upcoming Listening Session at this year's ECEDHA Annual Conference, an essential gathering to hear from you, our academic members.
| | |
The ECEDHA Listening Session is a platform for every voice in our academic community. In these changing times, it is crucial that we come together to listen, rally, and share ideas. The policies and directions that may be set forth by the current administration will significantly influence how we serve our students, faculty, research enterprises, and communities. This session will allow us to gather insights and prepare for these potential new pathways.

Meet Waviane Valdares
The IEC 2to4 program is an IEC initiative focused on supporting first-generation, underrepresented minority community college students in their transition to completing four-year ECE degrees. In Fall 2024, the first cohort of 2to4 students received scholarship funds. We invite you to share in their academic journey.

I started my journey in Brazil, worked through El Paso Community College, and am now a junior studying Electrical and computer Engineering at UTEP. Being on the Dean's List a few times has been a real highlight for me!
Back in Brazil, I kicked things off in business, learning lots about office processes and communication. This experience really helps me now in engineering where I mix technical skills with business knowledge.
Here at UTEP, I'm diving deep into power systems and balancing it with a math minor. My co-op at Oncor Electric Delivery has been a game-changer, giving me a chance to apply what I learn and really help out with data analysis and power distribution.
| | |
I'm all about facing new challenges and I'm excited to keep pushing the limits in electrical engineering. Thanks to the 2to4 Scholarship, and all the people in my life, this journey has been possible, and I'm really grateful for the support!
