Metro is Supporting Businesses

Through the nation's BIGGEST transit expansion, LA Metro wants to make sure construction doesn't negatively impact small businesses.

The Business Interruption Fund (BIF) is a program that provides grants to small “mom and pop” businesses directly impacted by construction on certain lines. To learn more about the BIF, visit metro.net/bif.

The Business Solution Center (BSC) is a program which provides marketing support, business plan development, technical resources, accounting management and coaching to small businesses during all light rail and bus rapid transit projects. Direct all questions about the BSC to bsc@metro.net.

Earn Monthly Bill Credits on Electricity Charges

LADWP’s Business Promotion Bill Credit (BPBC) Program offers eligible businesses, which are new to the LADWP service territory, monthly bill credits on electricity charges* for the first three years of operation.

A qualifying new commercial electric service customer may receive a 7.6% credit on electricity charges each month for the first year. During the second year, it may receive a 5% monthly credit, followed by a 2.5% credit per month during the third full year of operation. This program is offered on a first come, first served basis. For example, a business with a monthly electric bill of $10,000 could save $760 per month in the first year and $500 a month during the second year and $250 per month during the third and final year.

How Does West Basin Recycle Water?

Water recycling mimics the natural process of cleaning water at a much faster rate to meet the needs of overpopulated areas.

In primary treatment at sewage treatment plant, solids are removed (like streams and rivers). Added micro-organisms eat smaller particles that are too small to see or too light to settle.
Then, in microfiltration, water is pressurized through pipes containing straw-like fibers with pores that are 5,000 times smaller than a pinhole.
Finally, in reverse osmosis, water is pressurized at about 200 pounds per square inch through tightly wound layers of membranes with pores that are 5 million times smaller than a pinhole. Also, disinfectants such as chlorine are added to kill germs
At this point, the water is ready for use in landscape irrigation and various industrial and commercial uses.

Golden State Water Gives Back for Thanksgiving

Golden State Water Company's annual Operation Gobble program has contributed over $100,000 in funding to help feed local families within the 80 California communities it serves.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, Golden State Water, in partnership with local food banks and non-profits, expects to provide turkeys to approximately 10,000 families and individuals in need of meals. Operation Gobble has been a Golden State Water tradition since 1990. Over the last 30 years, the program has funded more than 280,000 turkeys.
