Golden State Water Offers Guidance for

Emergency Preparedness

Because emergencies can impact water utility operations, Golden State Water Company (GSWC) prepares itself to respond to these emergencies and to protect the lives and well-being of customers, employees, and contractors. GSWC has a comprehensive Emergency Management program that includes preparedness and response plans, training, exercises, risk assessments, and implementation of industry best practices.

As a water provider that relies on electric power to operate their water systems, GSWC is investing approximately $12 million to install backup power generators at strategic locations throughout the state to help safeguard against water service interruptions due to unplanned outages of the electric grid.

SoCal Edison Simplifies Energy Savings

SoCal Edison's Simplified Savings Program for Small and Medium Businesses offers free on-site assessments, educational advice, and professional installations for energy-saving measures that can be installed at no- or low-cost. This program is designed to address challenges faced by business customers in disadvantaged or hard-to-reach communities. It provides key milestones towards achieving greater energy efficiency, lowering utility bills, and enhancing comfort, productivity, and safety in your business.

Save Water, Save Money with West Basin Resources

Our partners at West Basin Municipal Water District promote resources that can help businesses access commercial water rebates. Through SoCal Water$mart and bewaterwise.com, businesses can access commercial programs for turf replacement, weather-based irrigation controllers, rotating nozzles for pop-up spray heads, and more.

In addition, fact sheets, how-to tips, and a list of California Friendly plants are among the topics available at your fingertips, each as part of the BeWaterWise toolkit.

SBCCOG and SoCalREN Success:

South Bay Public Agencies Earn More Than $1 Million with Water Heater Upgrades

Recently ten South Bay public agencies received more than $1.1 million from an incentive program to replace gas-powered water heaters with heat pump technology. Heat pump water heaters are fully electric and are 300% more energy efficient than gas-fired water heaters. Heat-pump technology uses hot exhaust air from other HVAC systems to heat water.

The upgrades will result in annual gas savings equivalent to a year's gas use by 350 houses. It will also prevent the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere equivalent to the emissions that result from driving a gas-powered vehicle 2.5 million miles every year. The energy cost savings for all agencies will be $48,000 annually.

The funding for the replacements was provided through the Southern California Regional Energy Network’s (SoCalREN’s) Heat Pump Water Heater program. Through its partnership with the South Bay Cities Council of Governments, the SoCalREN worked to bring the program to South Bay municipal buildings and school districts. The SoCalREN and the SBCCOG collaborate to bring money- and energy-saving projects to the South Bay.
