South Bay Small Businesses Celebrate Energy Savings Through SoCalREN Programs

Small, hard-to-reach businesses in Gardena celebrated significant energy savings thanks to no-cost, comprehensive energy efficiency assessments and upgrades made possible through the SoCalREN Commercial Energy Efficiency Programs, conducted in partnership with the South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG).

Corner stores, restaurants, and other small businesses received comprehensive upgrades, which included energy-efficient lighting, refrigeration systems, water heating improvements, and other measures—all at no cost. The program kick-off in Gardena wrapped up with about $470,000 in equipment incentives given to businesses, which will save over $95,000 on energy bills cumulatively in the first year. Functional Turf Rebate Changes

As of January 15, 2026, the increased $7 rebate per sq. ft. amount has expired and the regular $4 per sq. ft. rebate amount has been reinstated for public agencies and businesses within the West Basin Municipal Water District (West Basin) service area.

In addition, West Basin is providing free landscape consultation and design services valued at up to $5,000. A landscape design is a required document for the grass removal rebate application, so this added complimentary service will keep your landscape transformation costs lower than ever.

Emergency Disaster Relief Program

Golden State Water Company (Golden State Water) has an Emergency Disaster Relief Program that provides protections for residential and small business customers impacted by a public health emergency, wildfire or other natural disaster.

In the event that a State of Emergency is declared at the state or federal levels, customers who suffer emergency-related financial hardships, loss or disruption of the delivery or receipt of service, and/or degradation of the quality of service, are entitled to cooperation and support in resolving prior unpaid bills, flexibility in payment options, and more.

The Commercial Building Energy Solutions and Technologies Program

You can reduce operating costs by utilizing energy-efficient building solutions, taking steps toward upgrading equipment, reducing energy demand, and making seasonal adjustments to control heating and cooling. SoCalGas's Commercial Building Energy Solutions and Technologies (C-BEST) Program helps businesses make improvements by introducing no-cost or co-pay*, easy-to-install energy-efficient equipment.

Join the Green Business Community!

Learn practical, cost-effective strategies to improve energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste reduction for your business! SBCCOG staff are meeting with businesses to provide resources, guidance, and to support the implementation of sustainable strategies. This work can lead to certification through the California Green Business Network (CAGBN), which provides resources and technical assistance to California businesses.

Small to Medium businesses in the following cities can participate: Carson, El Segundo, Gardena, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lomita, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills Estates and Torrance.

For participating Carson and Hawthorne businesses, incentives including a potential $550 grant, are available. Apply here by March 10, 2026 or contact Martha Segovia for more information.
