Take 5 Steps Today for Earth Day
(Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy)
|
In honor of Earth Day's 50th anniversary, take these five steps to make the world a greener place:
1. Switch from using plastic straws and disposable bottles. Get a reusable straw in stainless steel, glass, or bamboo to use instead of wasteful plastic straws. Invest in a water filter and reusable water bottle(s). Extra bonus: it's cheaper in the long run.

Project Room Key
|
You may have heard or read by now about the State's Project Room Key. The State and the County of Los Angeles are working together to enter into occupancy agreements with local hotel and motels to house asymptomatic
and vulnerable people experiencing homelessness. Those in the high-risk category are those who are 65 years of age or older and/or have existing
chronic health conditions, such as immune disorders or respiratory issues. The County is looking for properties with 100 or more rooms. The sites are managed by LA County Fire Department; 24/7 security is provided; hotel staff will be utilized for housekeeping services; and a service provider that specializes in working with people experiencing homelessness will be available to provide case management.
If you are a hotel or motel in the South Bay
and are interested
in participating in Project Room Key,

Earth Day 2020: How 8 Tech Companies are Doing Their Part
(TechRepublic)
|
Tech companies are stepping up to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22, with a variety of initiatives and events. The theme for this year's Earth Day is climate action, according to the official
Earth Day site. The mission is to encourage individuals and organizations around the world to continue moving toward a zero-carbon future that makes our world more habitable.
"When Earth Day was founded, the government led the charge for climate action and brought attention to the widespread environmental issues," said Mathias Lelievre, CEO of ENGIE Impact, a sustainability and energy management company. "Now, 50 years later, businesses are leading the charge by setting aggressive targets and holding their shareholders and supply chains accountable for meeting these goals."
