Tips to be "Flush" with Cash

Toilets account for 24% of indoor water use. This means that water-efficient toilets are a great place to start reducing usage and costs for your business.

Golden State Water helps people and businesses use water efficiently and offers rebates and special programs to customers to help manage water use. They also offer three tips to avoid "flushing" money down the drain.

Test for Leaks - Put a few drops of food coloring in your toilet tank and wait 15 minutes. Any color that appears in the bowl without flushing indicates a leak which should be fixed soon.
Upgrade Toilets - Consider purchasing EPA WaterSense labeled products.
Fill Your Toilet Tank - If you can't replace standard toilets with more efficient models, fill a half-gallon bottle with water or rocks and put it in your toilet tank. This displaces water from the tank and causes it to use half as much water when flushing, saving around 10 gallons per day.

Results of this assessment give participants valuable insights on their water use and measures for saving water, money and the environment.
