SCE Direct Install Program: FREE & Low-Cost Services for Businesses

Today's economy is especially challenging for small businesses.  Many are aggressively seeking ways to cut expenses and better manage operating costs.  Southern California Edison (SCE) understands how energy costs can impact your bottom line...that's why SCE offers the Direct Install program.
The Direct Install program is an excellent way for your business to reduce energy costs and save money.  This effortless program offers long-term savings to qualifying businesses by providing no- or low-cost energy efficient products, including installation.

FCI is the SCE-approved contractor in the South Bay. The Direct Install contractor may be visiting businesses in the following cities in October: Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, and Rolling Hills Estates.

Eleven of the Green Business Assist Program participants took advantage of the SCE Direct Install (DI) program previously and received benefits. All businesses had a least one measure installed, with one business having 6 measures installed. Lighting, refrigeration, and LED signs were the most popular measures installed. Savings realized from participating in the DI program resulted in the following cumulative annual savings: 7.22 kW; 31,211 kWh; and $4,681.60.

Ideal Office Temperatures for Productivity

Conventional wisdom says that finding the ideal office temperature is important to worker productivity. A difference of just a few degrees can have a significant impact on how focused and engaged employees are.  For decades, the available research suggested keeping the office temperature between 70 and 73 degrees Fahrenheit would be best for the majority of workers.

The problem was that the research was outdated. It was primarily based on an office full of male employees, as most workplaces were until the later half of the 20th century. Today's office buildings, however, are likely to have as many women as men. So should that factor into decisions about office temperatures?

West Basin Municipal Water District Offers FREE Landscape Transformation Classes

West Basin Municipal Water District will be partnering with Metropolitan Water District (MWD) to offer homeowners a free class designed to help transform your lawn into a more water-efficient landscape. West Basin will be hosting 5 separate classes throughout local cities beginning in August 2018, which will teach participants how to incorporate sustainable landscape design elements, alongside California Friendly plants, to assist residents with navigating the turf removal process for their landscapes.

During the class, participants will learn how to:
  • Remove existing grass
  • Plan a sustainable garden design
  • Prepare a healthy soil for plants
  • Incorporate a water-efficient irrigation system
  • Plant climate-appropriate plants
  • Maintain a new, drought-tolerant landscape
  • Apply for a rebate of $1 per square foot of turf removed (offered by MWD)
