2021 Fall SoCalGas Building Operator Certification (BOC)
Level I Courses Offered via Zoom
The Smart Buildings Center (SBC) offers live instructional webinars throughout the year to keep facilities professionals informed on the latest best practices, trends and technologies that will help them save energy and run their facilities at optimal efficiency.

SBC is offering an online BOC Level I course that starts on September 1, 2021. This course is open to SCG customers, and will be online using Zoom.

What Businesses and Residents Need to Know about California's Organic Waste Recycling Law
Scientists tell us that greenhouse gases released by human activities, like land-filling food and yard waste, cause climate change. According to CalRecycle, landfills are the third largest source of
methane in California. Organic waste, which includes food scraps, yard trimmings, paper, cardboard and wood make up half of what Californians dispose in landfills.

To respond to the climate crisis, California is implementing statewide organic waste recycling and surplus food recovery through SB 1383, signed into law in September 2016 by Governor Edmund Brown Jr. SB 1383 (Lara, Chapter 395, Statutes of 2016) establishes the following methane reduction targets...

West Basin Grass Replacement Program
Businesses are encouraged to participate and convert their existing lawn to a drought-resilient garden. West Basin offers a rebate of $3 per square foot of grass removed, up to 50,000 square feet for commercial grass replacement projects. New landscape projects integrate water saving plants, upgraded irrigation systems, and a rainwater capture element. To learn more about the program, please visit www.westbasin.org/grass-replacement.
Cash for Kitchens Water Savings Rebates
Increase water efficiency in your commercial kitchen, restaurant, or business by upgrading kitchen devices through West Basin’s Cash for Kitchens program. Eligible Energy Star Dishwasher rebates up to $6,000 are available for businesses in the West Basin service area. Reduce your operating cost with a qualified Energy Star dishwasher, which typically uses half the water of older inefficient models.
