Step aside, speakeasies and flappers—Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce brought the razzle-dazzle to South Shore Harbour Resort on October 3, 2025, with a soirée that would’ve made Louis Armstrong tip his hat.
The Chairman’s Ball, dubbed *The Bigger Easy*, was the cat’s pajamas, celebrating 63 years of Chamber excellence with a night that riffed on the golden age of jazz.
The joint was jumpin’ from the cocktail hour at 6:30 PM, with guests dressed to the nines in 1920s Jazz attire—black ties, dark suits, and gowns that shimmered like a trumpet solo under the spotlight.
The evening’s program was a smooth progression of class acts:
Jacob Bigger took his final bow as the 2024-2025 Chairman of the Board.
Amy Doherty was welcomed with a standing ovation as the new 2025-2026 Chair.
A toast was raised, courtesy of the Dizzy Gillespie Chairman’s Toast Sponsor, and the crowd swayed to the rhythm of PRP Entertainment.
Everyone played their part in making the night a high-note celebration of community, leadership, and business brilliance.
The Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce proved once again that when it comes to honoring its members and leaders, it doesn’t just play the tune—it swings it.
Thank you to AMOCO Federal Credit Union for inviting Lisa Holbrook, as the evening was the bee’s knees, and I was honored to be your guest.

On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, the South Belt-Ellington Chamber of Commerce took part in Harris County Precinct 2's annual National Night Out, hosted by the Honorable JoAnn Delgado, Justice of the Peace for Precinct 2 Place 1.
The event, held at the Scarsdale Courthouse Annex, provided a great opportunity for organizations, residents, and public servants to come together and raise awareness about the importance of community safety.
Each year, Judge Delgado brings these groups together to strengthen the bonds between residents and public safety officials, promoting a unified front against crime.

On Friday, October 10th, Lisa Holbrook had the privilege of attending the University of Houston-Clear Lake Alumni Celebration at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Baytown-Houston.
The event featured an impressive lineup of award recipients, and the videos were particularly moving, showcasing various aspects of their lives and highlighting the significant impact the University of Houston–Clear Lake has had on their journeys. Each honoree took a moment to acknowledge their family members—mothers, fathers, spouses, and siblings—who played a vital role in their achievements.
It was especially meaningful to support Kristi Koncaba, the Chair-Elect of the South Belt - Ellington Chamber of Commerce, as she embodies a generous heart and a warm spirit.
A sincere thank you to AMOCO Federal Credit Union for allowing the chamber to be a part of this wonderful celebration.

On October 16th, San Jacinto College Chancellor Dr. Brenda Hellyer delivered an impactful address at the 2025 State of the College event, emphasizing the transformative power of education through the narratives of four outstanding Ravens.
These stories spanned mentorship and career reinvention, reflecting San Jacinto College's core mission. Dr. Hellyer also provided attendees with updates on significant initiatives, including San Jac Online and the Promise @ San Jac Scholarship.

Thank you, Fertitta Chevrolet, for extending an invitation for the South Belt-Ellington Chamber of Commerce to attend the Wings Over Houston Airshow on Saturday, October 18th.
Entering the purple parking lot was a breeze, and it was just a short walk to the VIP tent. There were lively conversations and delicious food catered by Saltgrass Steak House, where the ribs were so tender they fell off the bone.
And let's not forget the amazing aerobatics on display!
Fun Fact: This event, a true landmark in our community, was initially launched by our chamber!

Dust off your boots and polish that bling—League City sure knows how to throw a shindig! On Saturday, October 18th, the League City Regional Chamber of Commerce hosted its 2nd Annual *Together at the Table* event on Saturday, October 18th and it was a rootin’-tootin’ good time for all who saddled up and joined the celebration.
Set beneath a canopy of twinkling string lights and Texas stars, this year’s theme, Boots & Bling, brought out the best in western charm and southern hospitality. Guests gathered around one long, beautifully decorated table, sharing stories, laughter, and experiencing a hearty helping of hospitality.
Local restaurants served up family-style comfort food that had folks loosening their belts and asking for seconds. Signature cocktails from Preamble Lounge were served in commemorative cups, adding a splash of flair to the evening’s libations.
The air was filled with the soulful sounds of Martin Griffin, whose live music kept boots tapping all night long. Guests captured memories at the 360° photo booth, sponsored by The Daily News, and tried their luck with raffle drawings, gift card pulls, and the dazzling Diamond Pull courtesy of Wight Diamonds.
The Chamber tipped its hat to the Businesses of the Year, honoring those who’ve gone above and beyond to make League City a better place to live, work, and thrive.
This event sold out faster than a rodeo on a Saturday night, leaving attendees feeling special and appreciated.
A tip of my hat to AMOCO Federal Credit Union for rollin’ out the welcome wagon and invitin’ the South Belt-Ellington Chamber of Commerce to the boot-scootin’ festivities. Y’all made your guests feel like part of the herd from the get-go!
From your chamber cousin over at the South Belt - Ellington Chamber of Commerce—we’re proud to ride alongside y’all in this big ol’ Texas roundup of community and connection.
Y'all come back now, ya hear?

The Blackhawk H-E-B was crawling with cuteness and candy on Friday, October 24th, for their Trunk or Treat bash!
From mini monsters to tiny superheroes, the parking lot was packed with ghoulish giggles and frightfully fun costumes.
Big thanks to all the little boos and ghouls who stopped by for trunk-loads of Halloween magic!
| | |
Jerry Garcia, Harris County Constable Precinct 2 ’s Trunk or Treat Was a Graveyard Smash!
Despite a spooky forecast, the rain held off just long enough for over 1,000 little goblins, witches, and superheroes to haunt the Courthouse Annex parking lot on Saturday, October 25th!
Families enjoyed a fang-tastic evening filled with treats, characters, and monster mash-worthy music.
The community spirit was alive (or undead ) and well, and the South Belt-Ellington Chamber of Commerce is grateful to be a part of its howling success!

On Thursday, November 6th, The Foundation For Hope Village held its annual Glitz & Glamour Style Show and Luncheon, bringing together fashion, friendship, and philanthropy. This event aims to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by highlighting both stunning fashion and Hope Village's mission.
Guests were greeted with an array of boutique shopping from local vendors, providing the perfect opportunity to reconnect with old friends and meet new faces. Glasses of champagne were abundant over the chance to win a dazzling diamond bracelet, generously donated by Diamonds Direct.
The highlight was the runway show, where models—some of whom were residents of Hope Village—graced the stage in stylish ensembles available in Hope Village's resale shop, The Clotheshorse Boutique, and mommie chic and me.
A silent auction and raffle added excitement, with proceeds directly benefiting programs that enrich the lives of Hope Village residents.
Guests left inspired and uplifted, carrying with them the spirit of Hope Village and the knowledge that their support helps create a brighter future for many.
Thank you, AMOCO Federal Credit Union, for inviting Lisa Holbrook, South Belt-Ellington Chamber of Commerce for inviting me to sit at your table.

What an incredible evening at the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce’s Taste of the Town on Thursday, November 6th!
With an estimated attendance of nearly 3,000, the event celebrated local flavors, community spirit, and culinary creativity. Guests sampled delicious dishes from Pasadena’s top restaurants and explored unique offerings from local vendors.

One of the most exciting highlights was the opportunity for Anita Eakman and Lisa Holbrook to serve as judges. We cast our votes for our favorite dishes and helped crown the night’s culinary champions! Anita judged the Americana category, while Lisa took on Desserts, which had the most entries.
We were grateful to be invited to participate in a fellow chamber's event, and we will incorporate what we loved about it into our own.

When the sun dips low over Alvin and the sky turns that unmistakable shade of Texas twilight, folks know it's time to gather for something special. The Alvin College Foundation's annual event, Under the Texas Sky on Friday, November 11th, was a celebration of community, culture, and Southern hospitality.
Held under a canopy of stars brighter than a new penny, this hoedown brought together cowboys, cowgirls, and city slickers alike for a night of boot-scootin' fun. Guests moseyed on in dressed to the nines in their best pearl snaps, denim, and cowboy boots, ready to kick up some dust and enjoy a true Lone Star evening.
Live music from the Junior Gordon band got toes tappin' and hearts thumpin'; Folks line danced, two-stepped, snuck in a little Texas swing under the big sky.
But it's not just about the good times; it's about giving back. The event raises funds for scholarships and programs that help Alvin College students chase their dreams, whether they're fixin' to be nurses, welders, teachers, or entrepreneurs.
As the night wound down, guests left with full hearts, knowing they'd been part of something bigger than a barn dance.
Under the Texas Sky is a reminder of what makes this Alvin community so dang special.
A tip of the hat and holler a thank you to AMOCO Federal Credit Union, who allowed the South Belt-Ellington Chamber of Commerce to saddle up and join the posse for the evening.

How fun to slip into cozy jammies and attend Friendswood Chamber of Commerce's Jingle and Jammies Bingo, courtesy of Home Bank, on Monday, November 10th, at The Foundation For Hope Village.
There were twenty opportunities to win a designer purse, vie for a Louis Vuitton gift card, and bid on auction items.
And the highlight? Watching grown men dressed up as the Easter Bunny (maybe he got his holidays mixed up) , and another fellow who looked like he was ready to curl up for a long winter’s nap.
A big shout-out to the team that put together such a fun-filled evening!

AMOCO Federal Credit Union continues to demonstrate its generosity by hosting a Partnership Luncheon as the calendar year comes to a close. They invite both for-profit and nonprofit businesses, as well as chambers of commerce and other regional partners, to celebrate the season's merriment.
Typically, the presentations at this event focus on the credit union's efforts for its employees, members, and external stakeholders, or provide updates on the region's growth.
Tuesday, December 9th marked a significant shift as Ryan Sitton from Pinnacle was the featured keynote speaker, addressing the topic of Effective Leadership. His speech was enriched with anecdotes from various authors and coaches and concluded with three key points to consider:
- Focus on purpose rather than status, as the latter often distracts leaders from making a meaningful impact and limits genuine influence.
- Recognize that growth tends to occur more during challenging times than during comfortable ones, as navigating failure and discomfort is essential for development.
- Understand the importance of communicating expectations before seeking accountability. Clearly outline what needs to be done, why it matters, how it should be done, when it is due, and who is responsible.
The South Belt-Ellington Chamber of Commerce declares this luncheon the best one yet!

Lisa Holbrook and Anita Eakman had an incredible time sharing holiday greetings with everyone at the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership's open house on the afternoon of December 11th.

Marie Flickinger was a prominent figure in the South Belt-Ellington area, known for her many contributions.
However, her most notable legacy stems from her investigative journalism during the 1980s, where she authored articles that exposed toxic waste dumping at the Brio Superfund site near Beamer and Dixie Farm Road.
| | |
Her relentless efforts played a crucial role in the site's successful environmental cleanup.
On Wednesday, December 17th, the South Belt-Ellington Chamber of Commerce had the honor of attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Brio Superfund Archives, situated at the San Jacinto College Parker Williams Library on the south campus.
The establishment of the Brio Superfund Archives serves as a fitting tribute to her tireless work in investigative journalism and her impact on environmental justice. As we remember her contributions, we are reminded of the power of one individual to drive meaningful change.

In 1984, a Scarsdale resident, who wished to remain anonymous, delivered a turkey dinner to the Leader offices, asking that someone in need be found.
What started as a single act of kindness evolved into an annual Christmas tradition for the publication, gathering food and toys for families in the South Belt-Ellington community for the past 41 years.
Over the years, local schools, organizations, and residents have rallied to donate and help identify families in need, transforming this initiative into a significant community event.
This year, 26+ families and over seventy children and teenagers will have a happy holiday!
