In May, we reached the midpoint of the second quarter. This is a great time to update everyone on our progress so far and give a glimpse of what we have planned for the third quarter.
We've had some exciting developments during the past month. We welcomed four new members, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony, recognized outstanding scholars from four local high schools, and added a new director to the board.
Looking ahead to the summer and early fall, we invite you to our Business After Hours event, participate in upcoming ribbon cuttings, attend two intriguing Chamber Chats, gather paper and electronic items for recycling, and get ready to savor various delicious cuisines.

South Belt-Ellington Chamber of Commerce's
2nd Annual
Gold Star Families Recognition & Honor Luncheon
Wednesday, November 13, 2024
Hope Village Event Center
|
|
Plans are underway for the second annual Gold Star Family Recognition & Honor Luncheon. on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hope Village Event Center.
A Gold Star family is a family that has lost an immediate family member who died while serving in the military. The term originated during World War I when families displayed banners with a blue star for each family member serving in the armed forces. If a service member died, the family would replace the blue star with a gold one to inform the community of their loss. The title honors the service member's sacrifice and acknowledges the family's grief and healing.
We look forward to sharing opportunities to attend and sponsor this sacred occasion with our members.
More information will be forthcoming very soon!

Follow Down the Red Brick Road and Pave the Way for the Second Century
Statistics reveal heart disease is a significant cause of death for women, with more fatalities than all cancers combined, including breast cancer. In the United States, someone experiences a heart attack every 40 seconds, and approximately 805,000 people suffer from a heart attack each year, with 605,000 of them being first-time incidents.
Surgeons advise that in case of a heart attack, one should call 911 and come to the hospital in an ambulance, as this allows for treatment to begin en route.
Symptoms for women are different from men's.
Lisa Holbrook and Anita Eakman were guests of Macy Parrish at the Go Red for Women luncheon on Thursday, April 25th. This event convened accomplished physicians, nurses, and survivors to deliberate upon the significance of heart health. Notably, the Bay Area Go Red staff, in conjunction with volunteer leadership, commemorated the 100th anniversary of its establishment.
|
|
As a guest at Mayes Middleton's table, Executive Director Lisa Holbrook witnessed the top 10 students from each high school being recognized for their achievements, receiving a computer courtesy of Lyondell Bassell and Compuadopt, and learning about their post-high school graduation plans. They each chose a teacher who inspired, influenced, and accompanied them across the stage.
The Shining Stars Gala, hosted by the Pasadena ISD Education Foundation on Thursday, May 2nd, celebrated academic excellence, acknowledged dedicated educators, and inspired our future leaders.
|
|
Through the hard work of the planning committee, over $611,000 was raised to continue the great work of the Promise Fund, which was established a few years ago through a generous donation by philanthropist MacKenzie Scott.
Congratulations to the foundation!
