The University system has a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) that the OFSM will designate one person, to each University campus, as the Designated Campus Fire Marshal (DCFM). That DCFM is responsible for enforcing life fire safety code. Life fire safety is inclusive of the following, but is not limited to: fire alarm, fire sprinkler, emergency egress, maintaining egress pathways and necessary clearances, occupancy limits, chemical quantities and storage requirements.

The DCFM is also responsible for annual inspection of buildings and compliance of these codes throughout all of campus. DCFM is the authority having jurisdiction for all fire life safety, at the University.
