on their new Endeavor 42!

My wife Rhonda & I had a plan to retire on a sailboat and sail the islands.

We contacted South Coast Sailing to take our ASA 101 & 103-104 Combo course all in the same week of May 2021. Our instructor, Craig B. was very patient and informative. In December 2021 we purchased our 1985 Endeavor 42 center cockpit in Green Cove Springs FL and moved aboard in January this year. We worked on the boat and practiced sailing and docking for two weeks before setting off on the 2000+ mile journey to our slip in Texas. Six weeks into our journey, we had issues with our batteries, generator, and morale. We were able to fix those few things and found the help we needed in Ft. Lauderdale. That gave some confidence for us to cross over to the Bahamas. Having a favorable weather window to cross the Gulf stream to West End, we looked at the weather and sea forecast and mutually agreed to the crossing. 10 hours later we were in West End Bahamas! We spent six weeks enjoying the beautiful waters and people there. Since we had a long way to go yet to get to Texas, we left the Bahamas back to Florida. We continued working our way around the south end of Florida and up the west coast. The long trip along the coast in the ICW was interesting. Barges, bridges, and locks! We made it to Kemah on May 15th. Now we're preparing for the return trip to the Bahamas in December. We can't wait to get back to the beautiful clear waters and people there!

Harvest Moon Regatta 2022

It was a great adventure down the Texas coastline! Congratulations to those who got certified in Advance Coastal Cruising (ASA 106) and Cruising Catamaran (ASA 114) aboard Reality Check on Harvest Moon Regatta and during the return trip.
