South Downs cheeses bring home awards from World Cheese Awards 2018 in Norway

At the World Cheese Awards 2018 this week, held in Bergen in Norway this year, we were proud to see some of our very own regional cheeses getting some notice.

Golden Cross Cheese made in Holmes Hill near Lewes, East Sussex, won a Super Gold and a Silver award. This delicious, log-shaped goat's milk cheese is lightly charcoaled prior to maturation when a velvety white penicillin mould develops on the surface.

Hampshire Cheeses near Basingstoke won Gold with their Tunworth, which was also recently awarded Best Soft Cheese at the Great British Cheese Awards. Described as a very British Camembert-style cows milk cheese with a soft, thin and wrinkled rind, a rich and earthy mushroom fragrance and a long-lasting, sweet and nutty flavour.  They won a Bronze award for their Flower Marie.
The Traditional Cheese Dairy in Ticehurst, East Sussex, brought home a Gold award for their Burwash Rose. Alsop & Walker in Five Ashes, East Sussex, won a Silver for their Lord London and a Bronze for their Mayfield; a nd High Weald Dairy in Horsted Keynes in West Sussex took a Bronze for their Brighton Blue.
