Happy Holidays!
It is hard to believe that the first trimester of the school year is in the books! What a productive first trimester it was! Please take some time to reflect upon and celebrate the progress your student(s) have made since September. We are so proud of the work they put in each and every day.

Please keep in mind that the season for weather delays and cancellations is here. Remember to keep an eye on our local media for weather-related delays and cancellations. Our district website and district Facebook page are great places to find school-related announcements.

As the holidays near, it is our sincere hope that you are able to enjoy some extra time with those you love. We also recognize that the holidays can be a stressful time for any number of reasons. Please know that we are ready and willing to lend a hand should there be a need.

Happy Holidays!

Health Information - Cold and Flu
The cold and flu season is upon us. Students who become ill will have to be sent home during the school day. The decision to send students home will be based on if he/she exhibits any of the following symptoms.

  • Fever of 100 or greater
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Unidentified Rash
  • Open Sores - especially on the face or hands
  • Red runny eyes
  • Feeling too uncomfortable to participate in school

If your child exhibits any of these symptoms in the morning,  please keep them home .

Students may return to school when they have been free of fever, vomiting and diarrhea, for at least 24 hours without the aide of medication.
The District's New School Has A Name
The School District of Reedsburg's new school now has a name,  Prairie Ridge Intermediate School . It was approved by the Board of Education during their meeting on Monday, November 19.

The name, Prairie Ridge Intermediate School , incorporates the building's themes of sandstone bluffs, agriculture, forest, industry, wetlands, the 400 trail, and the Baraboo River; along with the local area it resides. In addition, the name takes on the identity of the school, the students it will serve, and the educational culture created within.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the naming contest by submitting names and voting. The name was submitted by two individuals Mary Jo Huber and Barb Sand. They will be part of the school's Grand Opening Celebration.

Is Your Child Dressed For The Weather
  • Cold weather season is upon us. Dress your child appropriately for the temperature. If you need assistance with providing winter clothing for your child, please contact Mr. Bierman at (608) 963-5278 or Mr. Peetz at (608) 768-8936.

  • This is also a good time to check your child's book bag to make sure their extra change of clothes is appropriate for the weather. Food spills, bloody noses, wet clothes from the weather and bathroom accidents happen. Please be prepared so we don't have to call you to bring in a change of clothes.

Our weather procedure for colder weather is as follows:
If the temperature is below 50 degrees Fahrenheit, students should wear coats.
If it is between 50 - 55 degrees, a long sleeve shirt, a sweatshirt, or a fleece is acceptable; and if it is 55 degrees or above, a coat is not required.
Department of Public Instruction Releases District and School Report Cards
The School District of Reedsburg has had a wonderful start to its year! "We are excited about each student's individual growth and achievements. As a learning community, we are continually looking to improve," says Linda Bruun, Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. "One source we use to reflect on our strengths and areas for improvement is the School Report Card."

The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) generates a School Report Card and District Report Card for every publicly funded school and district in the state. These public report cards can be found online at  https://apps2.dpi.wi.gov/reportcards/home . The Report Cards are intended to help schools and districts use performance data to target improvement efforts that ensure students are ready for their next educational step – including the next grade level, graduation, college, and careers.   Read more...

Will There Be School?
When the decision is made to cancel school, delay the start of school or dismiss school earlier than scheduled, a Skylert message will be sent (phone, text, and email) for all weather related changes to our school day. Please make sure to keep your contact information updated with your child's school.

In addition, the district adds an Emergency Banner notification at the top of each page on its website. The banner is  RED  and includes pertinent information regarding a closing, delay or other information. Bookmark the district website www.rsd.k12.wi.us and check it the next time Mother Nature rears her ugly head.

A word of caution, please DO NOT click the "close" option for the emergency notification banner as this will close the banner for any future emergency notification as well.

Weather-related changes can also be found on the district's  Facebook page and local television and radio stations. Please refer to the Elementary handbook on this  website page 28 for a list of those stations.

Oftentimes, kids are not hungry when they first wake up but are ready to eat when school begins. Studies have shown that children who eat a nutritious breakfast have better behavior, better attendance, and improved test scores.
