The South Fork Project Final Environmental Assessment was released by the US Forest Service last month. Those who made comments on the Draft Environmental Analysis are eligible to comment on, or object to, this Final EA until the end of July.
There are major differences from last August’s Draft EA. The site has been reduced in size by about 1/3 to about 0.67 acre. They eliminated the accessible trail and its benches, one of the 3 picnic tables, and the staging area with benches.
The remaining 2 picnic tables have been moved immediately adjacent to the parking. One is close to the bathroom. The site resembles a rest stop with two picnic tables, not a day use area. The road will be closed from March through June. Mention is made of a “design feature to allow the passage of wheelchairs”, but the road is unsuitable for wheelchairs and walkers (we tried it).
