DEVELOPMENT

Farewell to the Last Printer on Printers Row

CMK Development has purchased Palmer Printing's building and parking lot in the 700 block of Clark. Palmer, the last printer in a district that was once the undisputed center of printing for North America, will be moving, probably later this year.  The building, a restrained Art Deco industrial building  built in 1938 for First National Bank's record storage, has no landmark status and is likely to be demolished.

The parcel is large enough to expect development of a residential tower there, one of the kind CMK has developed in several locations around the South Loop, including 235 W. Van Buren, 1620 and 1720 S. Michigan, and 1345 S. Wabash.

IN BRIEF

  • Divvy bike share system rolled out a series of new fare options and benefits starting this month. The new options include a $3 "Single Ride," a new "Explorer Pass," and 15 minutes of additional ride time for annual members.
  • Proposed boundaries for proposed near south neighborhood high school announced.
