South Florida Drive Green Fleet Expo

Drive Green Fleet South Florida is returning in February 2027 to showcase the latest advancements in alternative fuel and clean transportation technologies. The event will bring together fleet managers, industry leaders, and clean energy partners to explore innovative vehicle solutions, infrastructure opportunities, and strategies for reducing fleet emissions and operating costs.

Upcoming Virtual Series

Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Permitting

The Coalition team is developing a targeted virtual series to help standardize alternative fuel infrastructure permitting across South Florida. The series will focus on practical guidance for navigating inconsistent local codes, evolving fire chief sign-off requirements, and approval processes across Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach counties.

Designed for:

• Municipal permitting staff
• Private vendors
• Policy setters and local government partners

To provide focused, actionable guidance, each session will cover one fuel type at a time — CNG, propane, and electric vehicles — with attention to equipment requirements, safety considerations, and model language municipalities can adopt to streamline approvals.

Florida Power & Light (FPL)

Florida Power & Light is a shining example of long-term commitment to alternative fuels. For over 25 years, FPL has been running its 4,000+ vehicle fleet on biodiesel (B20), electric, and CNG, displacing 540,000 gasoline gallon equivalents of petroleum and using 2.5 million gallons of B20 in 2023 alone. With 67 fixed fuel sites across Florida and zero biodiesel-related maintenance issues over 25+ years, FPL demonstrates that clean fuels deliver real-world reliability at scale while serving 5.9 million customers statewide.

FY 2026 Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program & Low or No Emission (Low-No) Vehicle Program

OPEN NOW — Due September 21, 2026

Joint NOFO from U.S. DOT's Federal Transit Administration (FTA) offering roughly $21 million (Bus Program) and $589 million (Low-No Program) to purchase, lease, or rehabilitate buses and bus facilities, with priority for zero-emission and low-emission propulsion (electric, CNG, propane, hydrogen fuel cell) buses and related charging/fueling infrastructure. Eligible applicants include state and local government authorities and public transit agencies designated as FTA recipients. Applications due via Grants.gov by 11:59 p.m. ET, Monday, September 21, 2026. Opportunity IDs: FTA-2026-010-TPM-BUS and FTA-2026-011-TPM-LWNO.

Voluntary Airport Low Emissions (VALE) Program

ONGOING / AVAILABLE — Year-Round

Ongoing U.S. DOT / FAA program funded through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) and Passenger Facility Charges, financing low-emission ground-support vehicles, EV/alt-fuel refueling and recharging stations, and gate electrification at commercial airports in designated air-quality nonattainment or maintenance areas. Eligible applicants are sponsors of commercial-service airports (e.g., Miami International, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International, Palm Beach International). Applications are developed year-round with the airport's FAA Airports District Office as part of the annual AIP funding cycle.

Airport Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) and Infrastructure Pilot Program

ONGOING / AVAILABLE — Annual Cycle, Due November 1

Companion program to VALE, administered by the FAA, that funds zero-emission airport vehicles (e.g., ground-support equipment, shuttles) and their charging/fueling infrastructure at any public-use airport eligible for AIP funding. Eligible applicants are sponsors of any public-use airport listed in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS), including Southeast Florida's commercial and general-aviation airports. Pre-applications (3-page write-ups) are due to the FAA Airports District Office by November 1 each year.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency offers a wide range of grant programs supporting clean air, clean transportation, environmental justice, and pollution reduction. EPA grants are available to state and local governments, tribes, nonprofits, and other organizations working to protect human health and the environment.

Florida Job Growth Grant Fund

OPEN / ROLLING

Ongoing state economic-development program administered by FloridaCommerce funding public infrastructure — including transportation infrastructure — and workforce-training projects that support business growth and job creation. Florida local governments, state colleges, and other public entities submit project proposals; awards are selected by the Governor from proposals reviewed by FloridaCommerce on an ongoing basis.

Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) Program

ONGOING — Annual TIP Cycle

Ongoing federal-aid formula program administered in Florida by FDOT and the regional MPOs/TPOs covering Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach Counties. Funds transportation projects that reduce congestion and improve air quality. Eligible uses include alternative-fuel vehicle and infrastructure projects, idle-reduction technology, and transit improvements. Contact the Miami-Dade TPO, Broward MPO, or Palm Beach TPA directly for the current cycle's call-for-projects dates.

AFLEET Tool

The Alternative Fuel Life-Cycle Environmental and Economic Transportation (AFLEET) tool helps fleets calculate petroleum use, greenhouse gas emissions, and total cost of ownership across different fuel types. It is an essential planning resource for fleet managers evaluating alternative fuel transitions.
