2nd Chance Indiana knows that access to help for reentrants is critical to making a successful future. Whether it is housing, clothes, mentorship, or the all important job, we work very hard to be able to connect reentrants to the services they need, which is why "total interactions" is a very important number to us.
Our total number of interactions with reentrants from January through May reached an all-time high of 5,009. This number includes Website Registrants, Job Counselor support, Unique Van Riders, as well as those who contact 2CIN for help including Incoming Calls, Web Submissions, Emails, and Texts.
Meanwhile, Support Service Providers on 2CIN's website have grown over one thousand percent, providing help for reentrants all over the state. We are growing step by step, to change the outcomes for all Indiana reentrants, their families, and their communities.

TRANSPORTION IN CLARK COUNTY!
Southern Indiana Gets The
Vanpool It Needs!
2nd Chance Indiana is expanding access to economic opportunity with the launch of a new 7-passenger vanpool in Clark County, Indiana in partnership with THRIVE Recovery.
Marking another important step in supporting employment for reentrants, these vanpools are being used across the state, with existing routes in Noble, DeKalb, Kosciusko, Tipton, and Howard Counties. The Clark County expansion brings reliable transportation to southern Indiana—reaching a rural transportation desert where access to work is limited.
Transportation is one of the biggest obstacles to finding and keeping a job, and this extension of services will remove barriers by providing safe, consistent transportation to and from work, helping participants stay employed, as they begin a new and better chapter in their lives. Reentry Fair At Westminster

As usual, 2nd Chance Indiana was there for a Reentry Services Fair! Westminster Church ,on the near East side of Indianapolis, is a hub for caring ministries that provide food, connection to services, and always, 2nd Chance Indiana jobs.
Kendra Walker and Molly Oliver held down the fort while the food pantry was in full swing and were able to connect with several people in the community with whom they shared information about 2nd Chance Indiana’s job directory and our Intake Form, that assists us in getting them connected to employers, jobs, and wrap-around services available on our website.

FEDERAL CUTS HURT THE HURTING
How Fraud Is
Crippling Non-Profits
Because hundreds of billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars have gone to fraudulent people using non-profits as cover, federal grants have been slashed, leaving many legitimate Indiana non-profits to wonder if they can continue, as they scrape by month to month.
HERE’S THE THING: Indiana's Real Non-Profits are easy to spot. The Real ones are the ones that are audited, whose workers are underpaid, but constantly caring, as they find ways to continue to serve their communities of need. They provide actual food, actual training, actual transportation, and actual care to those who need it. The Real Non-Profits assist people who need help, and go begging for support because the work—for them—is all that matters.
The federal knee-jerk reaction of broad-axing non-profit grants due to the fraudulent actions of others has resulted in increased hurt and suffering by those in need. While we must eradicate misuse of tax dollars, we have to remember that the Real Non-Profits are there for a reason. Read More HERE!

MONTHLY MEET UP:
Making a Difference For
Reentrant Women
In just under two months, 2nd Chance Indiana and Televerde, which offers job training for women in prison, have helped a significant number of participants secure employment across a range of industries, including manufacturing, hospitality, retail, and food service. The partnership has begun a monthly process of sharpening the effort to employ reentrant women at the highest possible level. With the help of 2nd Chance Indiana’s Job Counselor, Kendra Walker, participants are receiving strong support during this critical period of transition, and many Televerde-trained women are now actively employed and building momentum toward independence with higher-wage positions that will build stability for a successful, fruitful future.
Taking part in these meetings are 2nd Chance Indiana’s Job Counselor, Kendra Walker; Employment Services Director, Molly Oliver; Televerde’s Senior Client Engagement Manager, Suzanne Bautista; Engagement Specialist, Courtney Hayes; and Employment Services Manager, Kathleen McWilliams.

THE GOAL IS HEALING:
Sakhem Institute Addressing Stress, Trauma, & Wellness
Healing is an important goal for many justice-impacted people, so 2nd Chance Indiana’s Director of Employment Services, Molly Oliver, met with Robin Coleman, Executive Director of the Sakhem Institute for Holistic Healing, to see how our organizations might build a relationship that could help the Institute reach its goals, while providing much-needed care to many of those we serve.
The Institute is designed for, and devoted to healing Black justice-impacted people so that they can experience hope and wholeness after incarceration. Through the Institute, members of the African American community can learn about the relationships between stress and trauma and the steps to wellness, through learning practical skills and access to holistic health interventions. When needed, connection to mental health resources will be made to reduce stress and trauma, with the goal of improving the quality of life of their clients. Support For Reentrants After Incarcertion:
Since 2017 UNITE INDY, now 2nd Chance Indiana, has provided a free web-based system, 2ndChanceIN.com, that connects those released from incarceration with jobs offered by our ever-growing list of employer partners, willing to hire people with a criminal record and pay them a living wage.
The site also offers a huge network of support organizations that can help with housing, drug abatement, licensing, clothing and so much more, Here!
A good job found quickly after release from incarceration can drive down recidivism about 90%, according to studies. Unemployment is connected to poverty, a criminal record, and re-incarceration. Our poorest neighborhoods contain many who have not been able to get good jobs because they have a criminal record, but 2nd Chance Indiana not only connects them with jobs, it also provides van transportation to many sites to help those who do not have affordable or reliable transportation. In some neighborhoods of Marion County unemployment is extremely high and poverty remains the overwhelming cause of violence—as well as lack of opportunity for children.
